Behind the Bars: A 3/4 Adventure into the Past

Last week, the Grade 3/4 students took an exciting and educational trip to Pentridge Prison, where they stepped back in time to learn about one of Melbourne’s most historic sites. During our guided tour, we walked through the old prison grounds, learning what life was like for prisoners and how the prison has changed over the years.

We discovered stories about Ned Kelly, one of Australia’s most well-known bushrangers, and even stood near the cell where he spent time. Another fascinating story we learned was about Julian Thomas, a clever vagabond who pretended to be a dentist so he could sneak inside the prison! He later wrote newspaper articles about the real lives of the prisoners.

It was a very interesting and eye-opening experience that helped us better understand Melbourne’s past. We asked lots of questions and left with our minds full of new knowledge!
