Mandarin

Grade 3/4 students worked through six tasks over the past two to three weeks to support one of the key topics: asking and saying dates in Chinese. These tasks involved writing and saying numbers from 1 to 100 in Chinese characters, and students were encouraged to complete as much as they could at their own level.

Most students successfully completed the final task of creating a Chinese June calendar, carefully writing all the dates using Chinese characters. They also built confidence with numbers through activities such as writing numbers up to 100, completing a dot-to-dot animal colouring task, and other number-based exercises. It was a highly successful unit, and I felt very proud watching the students engage deeply and accomplish each task with enthusiasm.

One of the most rewarding outcomes was seeing students develop a greater interest in learning Chinese, driven by their strong sense of achievement through completing the various tasks.

Junior School STEM

It's been a busy term in STEM for the Junior School students. They have been looking to the skies to learn about our solar system and beyond. This week the students became astronomers, naming clusters of stars as new constellations. If you study the Donvale Star Map, and use your imagination, you might be able to see some of these constellations in the sky tonight. Maybe one day there will be an actual constellation named after one of these emerging young scientists?

Middle and Senior STEM

The Middle and Senior School students are half way through creating their own claymation short film. There are hundreds of little green stars, waiting for their time to shine on the big screen. In week 10 all our filmmakers will be able to sit back and watch everyone's work. Keep an eye on our socials for the highlights reel.
