Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies - Barmah National Park

On May 20 - 21 our Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies class enjoyed travelling to Barmah National Park to attend a two day camp canoeing on the beautiful Murray River, Yorta Yorta Country. This area forms the largest River Red Gum forest in the world. This aligned with Unit 4 Area of Study 1, The Importance of Healthy Outdoor Environments and Area of Study 3 Investigating Outdoor Environments.

The outdoor activities undertaken to enhance their learning and understanding of Unit 4- Sustainable Outdoor Relationships were canoeing, camping, environmental observation and interpretation. The 12OES class also received a talk from an Elder from the local Yorta Yorta clan about Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples’ land management strategies for achieving and maintaining healthy and sustainable outdoor environments.

The students thoroughly enjoyed this experience. We continue to be proud to offer these Outdoor Education opportunities at Eltham High School.
