Term 3 Week 9                                                                                                   11 September 2026

From the Principal

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a fantastic Father's Day last Sunday Dads, and I hope the P&C Father's Day BBQ set the scene! It was wonderful to have our P&C president Mr Mitchell Paige, front and centre at the BBQ, having organised all the food, then cooking, serving and cleaning up. It is always wonderful when members of the P&C Executive can be involved in events and take a hands-on approach, but so often working makes that impossible. Thank you so much Mr Paige and again, thanks to all our dads, you are so important to us.

Congratulations to all our Merit Certificate recipients from Prep to Year 3 this week, we are very proud of you all.

The Year 2 Choir just stole the show with their brilliant performance at assembly too! Thank you to our Year 2 Choir and Mrs Marianne Huxley. Next week, we have our whole school STAR assembly on Monday, and our Intermediate Strings will be performing.

Our wonderful Instrumental Music teachers, Mrs Weekes and Mr Kukulies, are just so prolific in providing opportunities for our students here at Ironside and this week was no different. Thank you to Mrs Weekes who has organised for our children to be involved in Music Fest!

I believe that our last round of APSMO (Australian Primary School’s Maths Olympiad) has occurred for the year this week. This is a group of dedicated students who love to do additional mathematic testing. Thank you so much to Mr Bryan Chow for organising this wonderful opportunity.

As a staff we recognised Are You OK Day? this week and it is something that we would like to have our children and wider community think about as well. In the modern world, it is very easy for people to feel lonely for a myriad of reasons and so taking the time to ask people if they're ok and listening carefully to them is so important. Our world is one of constant busyness, but humanity demands that we slow down and connect to one another. I too hope that you are going ok, each one of you.

Thank you so much to Mr. James Tate and Ms Sheree Hoac who are coaching our Debating Teams.  They had an opportunity to compete last night and did a sterling job. I'm just so proud of how far they've come with their public speaking and now they're starting to really sharpen their arguments. Debating is such a wonderful life skill. Well done to our Debating Teams!

Coming up in our last week of school we have a Cross Country for Prep all the way to Year 6. Please make sure your child comes to school on Wednesday the 16th of September ready to participate in the Cross Country for their sporting house - sport’s uniform, hat, sunscreen and water bottles are essential.

Our final week of school is focused on Book Week and what a great thing that is, celebrating all things books! So now doubt you are busily preparing your child's costume with them for the parade on Thursday the 17th of September, remembering that the theme this year is Symphony of Stories. We also have our incursion for every year level across that week for Book Week. Please ensure you have returned the consent form for your child to attend, along with the entry fee.

I cannot believe there is only one week of term 3 left. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and I'll see you next week!

PS School finishes at 3:00 PM. Some people have gotten into a habit of sitting in their car with the car running from approximately 2:30pm onwards. If your car runs on petrol or diesel this is no good for anybody. Running cars have petrol emissions which affect the atmosphere and all living things. A lot of people are also choosing to sit in running cars in areas that are in two-minute zones, which is illegal.  Try and get to school for pickup time as close to 3:00 PM as you can and if you can't find a park, drive around the block and by the time you get back there will probably be a space for you. Let's work together to have a smooth pickup time with minimal carbon emissions.
