2026 QATSIF Creative Arts Awards

The 2026 QATSIF (Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Islander Foundation) Creative Arts Competition is an annual competition open to First Nations Secondary Students in Years 7 to 12 from around the state, sponsored by Griffith University. Judging has taken place and we congratulate the following students for receiving awards –

Year 9 Visual Art Excursion

On Friday of Week 3, the Year 9 Visual Art class visited the Griffith Art Museum and QAGOMA as part of their studies in the current unit, “The Captured Image”. At Griffith Art Museum, students explored the exhibition of internationally acclaimed Australian photojournalist Tim Page, best known for documenting the Vietnam War through powerful and influential photographs that captured the human impact of conflict. He also spent decades photographing cultures, landscapes, and people throughout South East Asia. At QAGOMA, students experienced “Snap Blak”, an exhibition of photography by First Nations artists, providing valuable insight into contemporary photographic practice and diverse cultural perspectives. Students also witnessed the work of our very own, Cooper Seeto (2025 Old Boy), whose work is on display at QAGOMA, as part of the Creative Generation Excellence in Visual Art Awards exhibition until September 13.

Year 10 Visual Art Street Art Workshop

Year 10 Visual Art students participated in a practical street art workshop with artist, Mark Paddick. Students developed the initial layers of a large-scale canvases with mixed media collage, stencils using aerosol paint and text. We look forward to seeing the end result as they work towards completing their canvases, which will then become the base for a future animation task.

Luminous Lantern Parade

During Art Club over the past two weeks, students have worked on creating a collection of colourful bee lanterns for Brisbane's Luminous Lantern Parade last week. Facilitated by Multicultural Australia, the annual event celebrates community, culture and diversity. It was wonderful to see our students' work on display as the bee lanterns surrounded the spectacular characters, Frankie and Red from “Where the wild things are” carried by senior students from our college, all of which contributed to a wonderful spectacle of light and creativity.
