From the Head of College

As we reach the halfway point of the term, it has been great to see the continued energy, engagement and commitment of our students across all areas of college life. Classrooms, sporting fields, cultural activities and around the yard have all provided opportunities for our young men to learn, grow and contribute positively to the College community.  

This week has been another reminder of the importance of perseverance and balance. While academic expectations remain high, it is equally important that students continue to prioritise their wellbeing, maintain healthy routines and support one another. I encourage families to take the opportunity to check in with their sons as assessment commitments increase over the coming weeks. 

Thank you to our staff, students and families for your ongoing partnership and support. Together, we continue to foster a community where every student is encouraged to strive for excellence while remaining grounded in our shared values. 

Father / Father Figures and Son Reading Night – Reminder 

A reminder to families of students in Years 5-8 that our annual Father / Father Figures and Son Reading Night will be held this Wednesday 5 August from 5:30pm to 7:30pm in the Draney Theatre. 

The evening is a wonderful opportunity for students and their fathers or father figures to spend quality time together while celebrating the benefits of reading. Guests will hear from acclaimed Australian author Tristan Bancks, enjoy light refreshments, browse the book stall and have the opportunity to win some great raffle prizes. 

Families are encouraged to register via the event booking link and join us for what promises to be an enjoyable and inspiring evening. We also invite families to support our Mission program by donating a book suitable for students in Years 5-8. Books in good condition can be dropped off at the Secondary Library and will be distributed to children in Papua New Guinea. 

We look forward to welcoming our Marist families for an evening of reading, connection and community.

Walkathon 2026 – Final Reminder 

A reminder to all families that Walkathon 2026 will take place this Sunday 9 August. As the College's largest annual family community event and a proud Marist tradition, the Walkathon brings together students, families and staff for a day of participation, community spirit and Marist pride. 

Student participation is compulsory, with students completing either the 10km Walkathon course or, where appropriate, the 4km All Abilities Course. We warmly encourage parents, guardians and family members to be part of the day by joining their sons on the walk. Whether you participate in the 10km Walkathon or the 4km All Abilities Course, your presence helps make this event such a special community occasion. Funds raised through this year's Walkathon will support the Marist College Ashgrove Parents and Friends Association, helping to enhance College facilities and the educational experience of current and future students. Students are encouraged to seek sponsorship from family and friends through the College's cashless donation platform: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/tCuF9vy6Pa?origin=lprLink 

Parent and guardian volunteers also play a vital role in the success of the event. If you are able to assist, please consider volunteering on the day and register before Thursday 6 August. Every contribution, whether through walking, volunteering or sponsoring a student, helps make Walkathon a success.

Year 5 & 6 and Year 7 & 8 Dance 

Students in Years 5 to 8 are looking forward to a fantastic evening of fun, friendship and community at the Marist College Ashgrove Year 5 & 6 and Year 7 & 8 Dance on Tuesday 11 August. 

The dance provides a wonderful opportunity for students from Marist and invited girls' schools to come together in a safe and supervised environment to socialise, enjoy music and celebrate being part of our wider College community. Years 5 & 6 dance will be held in the Champagnat Centre from 5:00pm to 6:45pm and the Years 7 & 8 dance will be held from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.

Tickets are $15 per student (Years 5 & 6) and $20 per student (Years 7 & 8) and include a packet of chips and a soft drink or bottled water. Additional snacks will also be available for purchase on the evening. Importantly, all proceeds from the event will support Australian Marist Solidarity, helping fund education and community development projects across Asia and the Pacific.

As always, students are expected to uphold the College's standards of behaviour and dress, helping to ensure the evening is enjoyable for everyone. We look forward to welcoming our Year 5, 6, 7 and 8 students for what promises to be another memorable and enjoyable community event.
