Harmony Week – Monday 17 - Sunday 23 March
Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. This year’s theme is ‘Everyone Belongs’ - something we hold true at Bimbadeen.
We are committed to creating a school community where all members are welcomed, accepted and treated equitably and with respect regardless of their backgrounds or personal attributes such as race, language, religious beliefs, gender identity, disability or sexual orientation so that they can participate, achieve and thrive at school. Bimbadeen Heights PS acknowledges and celebrates the diversity of backgrounds and experiences in our school community, and we will not tolerate behaviours, language or practices that label, stereotype or demean others. Our School Values of Integrity, Respect, Resilience and Compassion underpins this belief and approach.
On Monday 24th March we are asking our students to wear clothing that represents their culture or wear the colour orange which is the colour of Harmony. The clothing that represents your cultural background can also be colours of that country, for example wearing red, white and green to represent the Italian culture. Items worn must be school appropriate. Students are also welcome to bring along an item, such as a photo showcasing your family background. Please keep in mind that your child/ren will be responsible for this item coming to school and returning home. This item will be shared within classrooms and with peers.
This Friday we will also learn more about Harmony Week through our STARS program. We encourage you to talk to your child/ren about what they may have learned, inclusion and respect, specifically on how they can continue to demonstrate inclusion at school.
Thank you for your ongoing support to ensuring our community is an inclusive and respectful place. We encourage you to read our ‘Inclusion and Diversity’ policy on our school website and check out everything Harmony Week has to offer on the website
