In the Moment

Year 3&4 Camp
Year 3 and 4 students recently headed to Anglesea for camp, with the trip marking an exciting first overnight adventure for our Year 3s. Highlights included soaring along the flying fox, enjoying beach games, trying bush cooking and roasting marshmallows around the campfire. Camp was a great chance for students to try new things, grow in confidence and independence, and make memories with their friends.
"When I was packing my overflowing suitcase for camp, I was excited and nervous. I had been to camp before but not Camp Burnside. One of my favourite activities was solving a tricky riddle with friends in my group and another was playing The Floor Is Lava, where you work with your group and try to not fall off thin logs. Some other activities were Low Ropes, Bush Cooking and Bike Riding. On the last day we spent some time at the beach. It was a sunny day and the beach was so beautiful. A memorable moment was when we all sat around a campfire at night and got to roast marshmallows, and we got to eat 1 or 2… I obviously had 2!" - Pia Vinton, Year 4
Firefighter Visit
Our Prep students recently welcomed Fire Rescue Victoria for an up close look at a fire engine and the important work firefighters do to keep our community safe. They explored the equipment on board before seeing the firefighting hoses in action, which was a definite highlight for all of the students!
Ride for a Cause
Our Year 7 students recently took part in their annual Ride for a Cause, raising funds for Eat Up, an Australian organisation that provides free lunches to school students experiencing food insecurity. Eat Up makes and delivers more than 40,000 lunches directly to schools for children in need.
Our students made an incredible 2,277 sandwiches and rode a combined 610km, keeping four exercise bikes moving from 8am to 4pm. We’re still working towards our fundraising goal of $5000, and there’s plenty of time to contribute. Donate here by October 23.
Spelling Bee
Year 5 students put their spelling skills to the test in the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee, an online competition completed under teacher supervision. Congratulations to Jayden Lin (5M) and Daniel Wang (5G), who progressed to the State Round after competing among 98,783 student registrations in the School Round. While they didn’t advance to the Finals, both achieved excellent results and should be very proud!
Reptile Encounters
Year 8 students welcomed some scaley guests into their classroom during our recent Reptile Encounters incursion. They came face to face with a stick insect, green tree frog, brushtailed bettong, olive python and crocodile, exploring how different organisms function and survive. The experience connected classroom learning about digestive, respiratory and reproductive systems with the animals’ roles in their ecosystems.
National History Challenge
Sophie Zajda (Year 8) has been shortlisted among the top three entries in Victoria in her year-level and/or special category in the 2026 National History Challenge, earning a Silver Award. Sophie will progress to the Victorian State Award Ceremony at Treasury Theatre where Silver Award recipients will be recognised and the overall Gold Award winners announced. Congratulations to Sophie on this wonderful achievement!
Student Poetry Competition
Year 4 students put their creativity to the test in the ISV Poetry Competition, exploring the theme of ‘Fruit’. The challenging brief encouraged students to make unexpected connections, drawing inspiration from everything from colour and taste to growth and the cycles of nature. Karissa’s poem, which connected fruit with art, has been selected as a finalist from 1,400 entries. Congratulations to Karissa on this wonderful achievement!
Save the Planet Expo
Year 4 students explored environmental challenges and sustainable solutions through their HASS unit, Save Our Planet. They grew plants from seeds collected from their own fruits and vegetables, made recycled paper and investigated practical ways to care for the environment. The unit culminated in the Save the Planet Expo, where students shared their research and ideas for a more sustainable future.
