Prayer for Peace in the Middle East
Pope Leo XIII reminds us that “Nothing is more effective in promoting peace than the faithful united in prayer.” In this spirit, our college community, with other schools in the Diocese of Parramatta, paused last week in prayer, standing in solidarity with all those affected by the conflict in the Middle East.
We continue to pray for healing, protection, and lasting peace, and for the courage to live as peacemakers in our world.
In response to the ongoing violence and humanitarian crisis in the region, Caritas Australia has launched a Gaza Emergency Appeal providing essential aid—food, water, shelter, and medical support to families caught in the conflict. With thousands displaced, hospitals overwhelmed, and essential resources running low, the need is urgent and growing. To support this urgent work, please visit caritas.org.au.
Supporting the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal
Last Friday, 25 July, our school community came together for Winter Woolies Day in support of the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. Students and staff showed wonderful generosity by wearing their winter warmers and donating much-needed items such as blankets, scarves, beanies, socks, gloves and toiletry items.
A heartfelt thank you to all our families for your kindness and support. Your donations will bring comfort and warmth to those experiencing hardship in our local community this winter.
Our efforts continue next week through the Year 9 and 10 Commerce $20 Boss initiative, with all profits made being donated to the Winter Appeal. This is a wonderful example of our students using their creativity and enterprise to make a real difference.
Together, we are living out our values of compassion, service, and solidarity.
Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop – Friday 8 August
On Friday 8 August, our school community will celebrate the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Australia's first Saint and a courageous woman of faith, compassion, and service. As the founder of the Sisters of St Joseph, Mary MacKillop dedicated her life to the education and care of the poor, especially in rural Australia. She reminds us of the power of perseverance, trust in God, and the importance of helping others.
To mark this special day, students and staff will gather in Homeroom for a prayer service, honouring her legacy and reflecting on how we can live her values in our daily lives.
Let us be inspired by her words: “Never see a need without doing something about it.”
Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Friday 15 August
On Friday, 15 August, students from Years 7–11 and staff will come together to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption with Mass at 11:00 am at St Padre Pio Church.
The Feast of the Assumption is a Holy Day of Obligation in the Catholic Church, recognising the moment when Mary, the Mother of God, was assumed body and soul into heaven. This special day invites us to reflect on Mary’s faithful response to God’s call and her role as a model of hope, trust, and discipleship.
Further information regarding the celebration will be communicated to families next week.
