Puzzle Time in the Library – Building Bonds and Growing Minds

At our College, it's been a delight to see students gathering in the library during breaks, enjoying the simple yet powerful activity of puzzle building. More than just a pastime, these moments offer students a chance to connect with friends, problem-solve together, and strengthen their sense of community.

Building a puzzle can often feel frustrating—pieces that don’t seem to fit, patterns that are hard to follow, and the occasional piece that goes missing. But these very challenges mirror the learning journey. Just like in our studies, persistence, collaboration, and patience are key. Each time a student overcomes a tricky section or encourages a friend to keep going, they’re demonstrating the same resilience and teamwork that helps them grow academically and personally.

In many ways, this simple activity reflects a deeper truth found in scripture:

"Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." – Galatians 6:9

As we celebrate these joyful and reflective moments in the library, we are reminded that learning is a journey—sometimes complex, sometimes slow, but always worthwhile.

Let’s continue to support and encourage one another, one puzzle piece at a time.

Awards

Congratulations to all students receiving Semester 1 awards on Tuesday, 5 August. These awards are to acknowledge the significant achievements of our students in Years 7 to 10 who have shown an outstanding commitment to their learning.

The awards presented include:

The Principal’s Academic Excellence Award, presented to students who have achieved a vast majority of A’s across their semester one report, the Chisholm Award presented to students who have achieved many merits for being active participants in the life of the College, and the Perfect Attendance Award presented for 100% attendance in Semester 1. We are proud of the significant number of students who have shown such extensive achievement and dedication to their learning, and we look forward to presenting many more awards at the end of Semester 2.

Year 12 Practical Tasks

A number of Year 12 students across a range of subjects have been diligently working towards the submission or presentation of their practical work, research component or performance on top of their written Trial exams. We congratulate them on the enormous achievement of their commitment to this large component of their work. Their diligence and determination should bring them satisfying results.

Bus concerns

We have received some emails in regard to bus concerns, particularly late buses. Unfortunately, as a school, we can not investigate why a bus was late, but we do submit a feedback complaint to Busways. It is strongly suggested that parents also log their concerns with Busways via their website: Busways (https://www.busways.com.au/). On the website, click the orange button in the top right of the screen CONTACT. Under the subheading Get in touch, you will see a link to the Transport Info - Bus Feedback form.

$20BOSS

Congratulations to Lisa Rowe, Acting Leader of Learning HSIE, and each of the Commerce teachers for the successful $20 Boss program, which saw students start up their own small businesses with only $20 each and sell their wares at a fair on Friday, 1 August. Commerce students learned a great deal about creativity, initiative, collaboration, planning, logistics, and the economics of small businesses through this program, and the student body was able to make a purchase from a range of innovative and exciting products.
