School Captains' Report
Congratulations to everybody on completing this year of school! This year at CGPS has been an absolute roller coaster, and we hope you’re all having a positive end to 2025. Kicking it off strong, we had some amazing camps this year, from the Grade 6’s camp all the way back in March, and the grade 5s having just finished up at the end of November. From beach camps to history-filled holidays, we hope you enjoyed the activities and scenery! Stay tuned for more information about next-years camps — there’s some new ones!
On the 2nd of April grades 3 to 6 enjoyed participating in cross country, running around 2 to 3 kilometres at Princess Park. Back in August, we had our Athletic day where all students in years 3 - 6 participated in activities like shotput, hurdles, sprinting, and more, to qualify to compete in District. Following that we had the junior athletics day on the 12th of September where Grades Prep to Two enjoyed easier sports hosted by parent volunteers and the Grade 6 leadership team.
On the 19th of June, there was Winter Gala Day, where the Year 5/6s chose 1 of 5 sports to participate in, including Netball, TeeBall, AFL, and Soccer. After practicing in P.E, we traveled by bus to Princes Park or MSAC (depending on the sport we were playing) and competed against other schools. Our Summer Gala Day was the 6th of November, and the sports the 5/6s could choose out of were; Newcomb, Cricket, Basketball, Rounders and Tchoukball. We had so much fun!
In weeks 8 and 10, we had our swimming lessons. All students enjoyed improving their swimming abilities including backstroke, freestyle, water safety and diving, swimming for 45 minutes everyday for a week, walking there and back to Carlton Baths with their teachers, education support staff and parent volunteers.
This year, our specialist team put together some amazing activities and lessons. In Music, we did ukulele, piano, drums, and learnt how to navigate Garage Band. In STEM, we worked on earth sciences, chemistry, coding and experiments that taught us how to work better on hypotheses and different theories. In Visual Art, we worked on printing, drawing, painting, clay and different designs. In PE, we worked on different skills for athletics days, gala days and different in-class competitions. Things like tennis, volleystars, basketball, street hockey and more. In LOTE, we had two teachers, Jolie and Shan, who were excellent, and we loved the activities in ceramics that we did. We made small models of pottery and gave small presentations on them. We all had so much fun and really enjoyed learning about things like Chinese porcelain and storytelling. Shout-out to our specialist team for their fantastic contributions to our learning!
On the 9th of December, we had all of our year levels move up a class and meet their new teacher and peers for next year. We hoped you enjoyed meeting your new classes and teachers! The grade 6s had orientation day at their new high school that they are going to. We hope that was fun too! Good luck to everyone for next year!
Last night, the Grade 6s had their graduation ceremony and disco! We kicked off the night with some amazing speeches and awards from our principal Nathan, our School Council President Diane, the federal electorate member Sarah Witty and our state electorate member Ellen Sandell. Thank you so much for coming! We also had some very sweet messages written by our teachers, and a graduation video that highlighted all of our amazing moments over the years. Next, we went downstairs for some pizza, and then to our disco in the PAC, complete with dancing challenges, a Photo Booth, soda, candy, and our very own DJ Yazzy. Thanks to everyone for coming, and we hope you had an amazing time! Good luck in high school!
This year was an amazing experience for us school captains, as we embraced the role and the responsibilities it came with. It was an incredible opportunity and prepares us for more leadership roles in future, giving us experience in public speaking, communication, role modeling and other leadership skills. We hope we made a mark on our school community and are excited to see what the new school captains bring to CGPS. We wish the best to the future school captains, Liam and Issa, and others in the 2026 leadership team, and we hope their time will be as rewarding as ours.
