A message from the Principal

It is wonderful to be back at SKiPPS and to be starting what is shaping up to be another full and exciting term. As many of you know, I have been away for just over a month on Long Service Leave, with my time split between visiting family and friends in the United Kingdom and ten memorable days travelling through Andalucía, exploring Seville, Málaga and Granada.
During my absence, I would like to sincerely thank Jac Morphy for the outstanding job she did as Acting Principal. Alongside our leadership team and dedicated staff, Jac ensured that the school continued to run seamlessly. With a statewide strike day, Harmony Week and Athletics Day all taking place in that short window, it was certainly a busy and demanding time. The fact that everything continued so smoothly is a real credit to her leadership and to the collective efforts of our staff. It was clear on my return that I was very barely missed.
Returning to school, I have had to hit the ground running, with a packed term already underway. This Friday marks a particularly significant moment for our community as we recognise and celebrate the retirement of Susan Bishop after 36 years of dedicated service to the school. Susan has made an extraordinary contribution across a wide range of roles, and more importantly, has done what all great educators strive to do: make a lasting difference in the lives of children. She is someone who will long be remembered by generations of students, families and colleagues. To ensure we can properly acknowledge Susan’s contribution, our assembly will begin slightly earlier at 2:45pm. We warmly welcome families to join us as we celebrate her remarkable career alongside our usual performances and sharing.
Looking ahead to next week, our Year 5/6 students will head off to Canberra for their annual school camp. This is always a highlight of the year and a fantastic opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of Australia’s history, government and civic life. I am very much looking forward to attending and sharing in this experience with them.
Beyond this, the term is filled with opportunities for students, including our school swimming program, a wide range of excursions, and special activities taking place almost every week. It is a busy and vibrant time of the year, and there is truly something happening for every year level.
A reminder to all families that this newsletter remains the best way to stay informed about everything happening at school. I strongly encourage you to read it each week and to subscribe where possible. You can also access and save our shared school Google Calendar, with details provided in the ‘Key Dates’ section, to help keep track of upcoming events and important dates.
I look forward to a fantastic term ahead and to continuing to work in partnership with our community to support every student at SKiPPS.
