Preparing Your Child for a School Performance

School performances are a wonderful opportunity for children to build confidence, teamwork and a sense of achievement. While performing can be exciting, it can also bring a few nerves, so there are some simple ways families can help children feel prepared and confident.

At home, encourage your child to practise their words, songs, movements or actions when

appropriate. Keep practice fun and positive rather than putting pressure on them to be perfect. Talking about the performance and asking them what they are looking forward to can also help build excitement.

Please make sure your child has everything they need for their costume and that all items are clearly labelled. It can be helpful to have children practise wearing their costume or shoes beforehand, so they feel comfortable on the day.

On the performance days, a good night's sleep, a healthy breakfast and plenty of water can help children feel their best. Arriving on time also gives them the opportunity to settle in, get organised and feel calm before the performance begins.

Most importantly, remind your child that mistakes are completely okay! Performances are about having fun, trying their best and celebrating the learning and effort that has gone into preparing. Your encouragement and enthusiasm can make a huge difference to their confidence.
