Grade 5/6A & 5/6B-Parliament House Excursion

This week the 5/6 students went to Parliament House. The whole building interior has worth $12 million dollars of gold. The library has 6 layers of gold. They melted the gold and added some silver and bronze to make it a little shinier.-Moqadisa

When we went on an excursion to Parliament House we got to explore the green room, the red room and the library. This was teaching us about how bills get to be made into laws. We also got to admire the amazing 22 carat gold painted all over the building, along with beautiful sculptures and carvings.  -Mae 

At parliament we did a role play in the red room. The red room is one of the rooms that legalise a law. The law starts in the green room and if the vote is yes, it goes to the red room. If they also say yes then it becomes a law. If one of the two rooms says no it certainly won’t become a law. The most enjoyable part was when we either yelled “SHAME” or “HERE HERE” to either our side's idea or the opposing side's idea. -Arvo 

We learnt about how all the different rooms worked such as the green room which is for all 88 elected members of the L.A (Legislative Assembly) where they discuss how to help their communities.   -Hugo

We really enjoyed the excursion because we felt what it is really like making laws and the different roles in parliament. -Asiya

I enjoyed the parliament excursion so much, but what I enjoyed most was playing my character in the role play. I was the serjeant-at-arms and my job was very simple. I carried the mace and walked the speaker to her chair.   -Jerry 

Parliament was very fun, since we got to act out what it was like to pass a bill, and we learnt about why there was a Serjeant At-Arms. Everyone got a speaking role, and we enjoyed the time we had there. Afterwards, we had lunch in a nearby park, then went back to school.   -Ingrid
