The School Advisory Council (SAC) members suggested at a recent meeting that it would be valuable to share the key focus and learnings from the meetings with the broader community. For those not yet familiar with the SAC, the group consists of the Principal, Staff Representative, P&F President, Secretary, Chair, Vice Chair and General Members.
On behalf of the School Advisory Council, we would like to welcome the newest members to the committee, Emily Woodhams, Scott Davis and Siobhan Martin. We are encouraged by your level interest and enthusiasm during the meetings. Thank you for your commitment to the role.
The council meets twice each term and each meeting has a topic of focus for a deep dive as well as general business.
Topics so far this year have included:
18th February –Annual Action Plan, teaching of literacy and numeracy and the student leadership policy
1st April – School Funding with the MACS Finance Business Partner to present the sources of funding
6th May – Chid Safety and online literacy program
10th June – Student Wellbeing data
As collective we have valued the presence of teacher representatives at each meeting. This provides an opportunity for staff to share updates on relevant areas for that term with the most recent being the insights and success of Spirit ay.
Each meeting we all learn more about the school operations and wanted to share information that others may or may not be aware of:
- Funding of the school is 75% Government funding and 25% school fees – hence the desire to balance these funding sources to ensure we can maintain the operation of the school effectively
-The teachers moderate all of the maths and literacy work to ensure when reports are received, they have been moderated against a typical piece of work for that years level. This was of particular interest to the group as this was not well know and was certainly important information to have
-Holy Spirit remains committed to monitoring the wellbeing of students through the student wellbeing survey completed twice a year. This information is very important so that the staff can support each year level and develop actions plans to support groups where the data suggests they need it. We are one of the only schools that collects this data. Thank you to Ben Lennan for leading this important piece of work.
We will endeavour to share our learnings after each meeting so that we can highlight interesting information that may not be otherwise available. As always the committee welcomes any further questions you may have.
Kind Regards
Andrea
