Breaksea House News

What a fantastic start we’ve had to the year in Breaksea! It has been so pleasing to see how smoothly the girls have transitioned back into boarding life after the holiday break. The house has very quickly filled again with laughter, energy and that strong sense of community that makes Breaksea so special.

A very warm welcome to our three new students, Jayla Eades and Paige Trevenen in Year Ten, and Hannah Campbell in Year Eleven. It has been lovely getting to know each of them over the past couple of weeks. They have settled in beautifully and are already making such a positive contribution to life in the house.

It has also been wonderful to see our Year Eight and Year Nine girls make the move up from Endeavour. They are adjusting so well to life in the senior house and are already making valuable contributions to our shared spaces. We love watching their confidence grow as they step into this next stage of their boarding journey.

On our very first night back, the girls met in their buddy groups. Our Year Eleven and Year Twelve leaders spent time welcoming the new Breaksea students, walking them through the processes and expectations of the senior house. These buddy groups are also part of our duty roster, with the older girls leading by example, particularly in showing the younger students what is required to keep shared spaces like the kitchen and laundry clean and organised. We are incredibly fortunate to have such capable, kind and reliable Year Eleven and Year Twelve role models in the house.

We have already shared some fun social moments. Ten Pin Bowling was a great success, full of friendly competition and plenty of laughs; and our Gull Rock beach trip last Sunday was another highlight. Fresh air, sunshine, and time together outside the house are always good for everyone.

Last week was an especially exciting one for our Year Twelves, as they prepared for the Year Twelve Ball. We were thrilled to see them all glammed up and walking the red carpet, such a special milestone in their final year at school.

We are also delighted to welcome Miss Jodi Macpherson, who joins us from South Africa as our live-in gap student for the year. We feel very lucky to have Jodi as part of the Breaksea team and know she will be a wonderful support and bring great energy to the house.

A big happy birthday to Matilda Chitty and Megan Borgas, who celebrated their birthdays this week. We look forward to celebrating together properly on Sunday.

As always, students, parents and guardians are very welcome to reach out at any time if you would like to chat. Open and strong communication is such an important part of a positive boarding experience.

Let’s keep this wonderful momentum going for the term ahead. It is shaping up to be another fantastic year in Breaksea.
