Junior School

The Prep students have had a wonderful start to their schooling journey!

They have settled beautifully into the classroom routines and are proving to be very motivated, focused learners.

Our phonics program has been lots of fun as we have been revising letter sounds and names through Cued Articulation and Little Learners Love Literacy.

As we learn each letter we have enjoyed drawing pictures and writing about all the things we can think of that have the focus letter sound in them. There is also a corresponding character that the students have completed a craft activity for each day.

In our handwriting sessions, we have been looking at how to form lower and upper case letters correctly in Victorian Modern Cursive Script. It has been impressive to see the students take such time and care when completing their handwriting tasks. They have been keen to demonstrate their best work.

In Mathematics, we have been learning about the days of the week. The students are always keen to start each day with our 'Days of the Week' song, followed by a quiz about what day it was yesterday, what day it is today and what day it will be tomorrow. We have also been looking at patterns, creating our own and finding real world patterns in the environment around us. Lots of our maths activities are hands on and it is important that the students have fun and are engaged in their learning through interesting tasks and activities.

The specialist teachers have all said how amazed they are with the Preps so far, listening carefully to instructions and trying their best, even when challenged.

I am so very proud and I can't wait to see how the rest of the year pans out for these superstars!
