Chinese New Year

Over the past week, we’ve been celebrating Chinese New Year with our international students, with food, laughter and a little bit of red-envelope magic.

Last Friday (20 February), the International Student Department joined Laura, Andrew and our visiting German agent for a small but cheerful celebration. On the menu we had Chinese and Vietnamese dumplings, crispy spring rolls, and — KFC. It turns out that no matter where you’re from in the world, teenagers will always line up for fried chicken.

Then on Tuesday 24 February, the first day of the Lunar New Year, our international students received traditional red envelopes. As many of them are celebrating away from home, the school was very happy to “step in” on behalf of their parents and present them with a small red envelope containing a $5 restaurant voucher, wishing them good luck, happiness and prosperity for the year ahead.

This year is the Year of the Horse, symbolising courage and forward momentum. Judging by the enthusiasm around the food table alone, we are off to a strong start already.

Wishing everyone a joyful and successful year ahead!
