Principal's Message

St Luke's... "nurturing faith filled, curious children to become creative contributors and innovative problem solvers for a changing world."

Dear Parents and Carers,

As the winter chill sets in, we are reminded of the many individuals and families in our community who face the harsh reality of poverty and homelessness. This year, the St Vincent de Paul Society's Winter Appeal is more crucial than ever. We are reaching out to you, our valued school community, to support this important cause.

Poverty and Homelessness in Western Sydney

Western Sydney has been significantly impacted by poverty, with many families struggling to make ends meet. Recent statistics reveal that over 13% of families in Western Sydney live below the poverty line. Even more alarming is the rise in child homelessness. Approximately 17% of homeless people in Western Sydney are children, many of whom are facing winter without the basic necessities.

Our Schools' Initiatives

To raise awareness and support for the Winter Appeal, each of our schools has organized special activities:

School of Foundations: We will be holding a Pyjama Day. Students are encouraged to wear their favourite pyjamas and participate in various activities designed to promote empathy and understanding of those less fortunate.

School of Leadership: We invite students and parents to attend an Awareness Evening. This event will feature guest speakers, including representatives from St Vincent de Paul, who will share insights into the challenges faced by the homeless and how we can help.

School of Entrepreneurs: Students have the option to participate in the Winter Sleep Out. This overnight event will give students a firsthand experience of what it’s like to sleep rough, raising both awareness and funds for the appeal.

How You Can Help

We encourage all parents and guardians to support this worthwhile cause by donating through the QKR app. Your generous contributions will make a significant difference in the lives of those struggling to stay warm and safe this winter.

We also understand that some of our families might be facing difficulties themselves. Please know that we are here to support you. If you need assistance, we can offer fee payment plans and other forms of support to ensure that every child has equal access to educational opportunities. Please contact the school if we can support in any way.

Together, we can make a positive impact and show our community the power of compassion and solidarity. Thank you for your continued support and participation in these vital initiatives.

Kind Regards,

Kelly Bauer
