Story Time In the Adventure Playground
“Story Time” in the Adventure Playground occurs each Wednesday at Recess hosted by Mr Bettiol. The opportunity to engage in shared story time is open to all students. Mr Bettiol has a great selection of books and actively engages the students in a range of stories that capture their interest and curiosity. Students are invited to respond to the stories presented. The audience is not restricted to K-4 with a number of older students joining in and sharing the experience with our K-4 students.
Recess Fun at St Luke’s!
Have you ever wondered what your child gets up to during their break times at school? We are so fortunate at St Luke’s to have spacious grounds and activity areas for the students to play, run, burn off energy, sit and relax or just enjoy time with their friends. There are opportunities for indoor pursuits (Wellbeing room and Hub) and outdoor activities.
There’s opportunities to climb…. Time to hang upside down…
Perhaps have some water play… Or, maybe enjoy sand play…
The Farm and tractor are popular…
Or, we can always play some music to express our creativity!

Kindergarten
Maths
In Maths Kindergarten is learning about 2 dimensional shapes. First they explored shapes in their environment and explored its features. They are learning to manipulate and create a 2 dimensional shape using geoboards, while discussing how many edges the shapes have. We will then move onto using shapes to create various pictures.
English
Students are learning about informative texts. Where students are learning to understand that they need to provide factual information to inform an audience about an animal. They have been labelling the parts of an animal and provide adjectives to describe the different parts of the animal. They will then use this information to create a text that informs an audience. Kangas unpacked information about a Hermit crab.
Religion
In religion we have been exploring the bible story of the Good Samaritan, this ties in with our driving question; ‘How can we appreciate others?’ We first explored what the word ‘appreciate’ means. Then we thought about the people and things we appreciate.
Science
This term students have been learning about various materials and their properties and purposes. They began by exploring different types of materials and their purposes. Using this knowledge, they then designed and made a chair for a toy. Students first created a plan, considering which materials to use for their chair. They then used this plan to design and make their chair.
Kindergarten also had the opportunity to experience the Fizzics incursion.
‘At the fizzics incursion i learnt about bubbles are made’- Ryker
‘ I learnt about magnets and how they stick together. If you put the opposite chargers together they will stick together’ - Charlotte. C
‘We got to play with the water bottle tornadoes, we had to quickly shake the bottle in a circular motion causing a tornado’ - Emaanveer

Students have also learnt the 5 finger prayer model, in which they are encouraged to say Thank you, Ask God for a need, Say sorry for their wrong doing and Ask for Help. Finally, Year 2 has explored the story of the Three Young Men in the Burning Furnace. In this story, students realised that even in difficult times, we can ask for help and God will help them.

Year 1 students are learning about the natural and man-made environments. We did a short treasure hunt field trip at school for the kids to explore around and see both natural and man-made places.
Mathematics WIZARDS
Students in Wizards have been learning about whole numbers in Mathematics and are developing a stronger number sense. In this task, students looked at 2-digit numbers, arranging them from smallest to largest. Students then identified 10 numbers more and 10 numbers less.

Year 9 Indigenous studies- Diagons
This week Stage 2 had the chance to explore Indigenous Dreamtime Stories led by some wonderful year 9 students. The year 9 leaders took a small group of Stage 2 students each and read the story to them. The year 9 leaders constructed a deep learning environment inviting questions for Stage 2. Stage 2 really enjoyed this peer support experience and are excited for their return in the weeks to come.
Mathematics- Gringotts
This week, year 3 has started to explore 2D shapes. The students have been working together to develop their understanding of 2D shapes by identifying the names of 2D shapes, categorising these shapes, counting the number of sides and vertices. Gringotts had a great time this week using paddle pop sticks to create regular and irregular 2D shapes in the sunshine!
