CONGRATULATIONS TARA!!!

Tara went to the Yarra Valley Racecourse to compete in the 18-20 girls State Cross Country Championships on Thursday 18th of July.

Tara ended up placing 29th out of 100 in her age group.

We are so proud of you Tara and all the effort you have put in to achieving such good results.

11-12 Boys Basketball

The Senior Boys Basketball team participated in the Glenelg District tournament, facing off against teams from Bayview, Portland Secondary, and Good Shepherd. The team showed great effort and sportsmanship throughout the day.

In the first game, the boys faced Portland Secondary. Despite a strong effort, they were defeated by 12 points. Brodie Reynolds stood out as the best player, showcasing his skills and leadership on the court.

The second game was against Good Shepherd, where the team faced a tougher challenge and went down by 18 points. Isaiah Baulch was the standout player in this match, demonstrating great determination and ability.

The final game of the day was against Bayview. The team fought hard, keeping the game close, but ultimately fell short by just 6 points. Despite the loss, it was a competitive game, and the boys displayed a resilient team spirit.

Overall, it was a great day of basketball, with the boys positively representing the College and showing great our values of Pride, Courage, and Respect.

Girls team

Game 1 vs Monivae – Bandicoots went down to a very strong Monivae squad by 15 points or so, after been down by only 3 at the half. An excellent effort all round.

Game 2 vs Portland – Bandicoots went down by around 20 in what was a very scrappy game, we were very disciplined under trying circumstances.

Game 3 vs Good Sheppard – Bandicoots got up by 20 or so, our girls were too well drilled and very solid in defence.

Overall, Layla Slater didn’t stop all day providing excellent run and unrivalled effort in defence. Ayla Ewing made an impressive return to basketball after a two year hiatus, proving to be very difficult to stop in the post. Makenzie Beaton was dominant on the boards at both ends of the court providing lots of outlet passes and repeat scoring opportunities.

Boys team

The Year 9/10 boys basketball teams had a dynamic day filled with excitement, challenges, and growth. The team showcased their skills with a mix of impressive wins and hard-fought losses. Overall the boys were happy with their end result and enjoyed taking the court yard competitions onto the hard wood floors and playing with people they have never played along side.

7/8 Boys Football

Well done and to all of the boys who took part in the football carnival held at Pedrina Park earlier this term.

On the day we played five matches winning 3, drawing 1 and loosing 1. This is a great result considering that for some of the tea, football is not one of their chosen sports. In all of the games the team played as a cohesive unit, sharing the ball around, doing the ‘one percenters’ to help out a team mate. Their enthusiasm and effort could not be questioned. Joel Taylors first goal in football was a prime example with several team mates running the length of the ground to celebrate with him.

Baimbridge 1:0 vs Monivae 2:2 (Loss) - Monivae went on to come first on the day.

Baimbridge 1:6 vs Portland Secondary College 2:0 (Draw)

Goal Scorers: Sam Cooper 3, Zanda Ewing 3, Theo Lehman 1, Joel Taylor 1, Maddox Boyle 1.

Most consistent players across the five games were: Chuck Cameron, Oscar Ractliffe, Theo Lehman, Angus and Zander Ewing, Sam Cooper, Ned Cush and Darcy Eats.

Some highlights of the day were Harvey's missed goal from 4 meters away from the goal post against Hamilton College, and Theo's amazing back to back fend off's against Portland Secondary.

We finished on the positive ledger with the scoring 9:14 vs 8:2 and finished a very credible 2nd overall on the day.

Congratulations boys for being great ambassador’s for our school. The school values of Pride, Courage and Respect were evident in how you played each game.

7-9 Girls Football

The Baimbridge College GD 7-9 girls footy team recently showcased their skills and determination at the last-minute relocated carnival in Casterton. Despite the abrupt venue change from Pedrina Park, the event ran smoothly, with all games played in high spirits and good sportsmanship. Our girls faced four games in quick succession (5 in total), with each match consisting of 2x10 minute halves and minimal breaks between.

Game 1: Baimbridge vs. Good Shepherd & Heywood Combined

Our first challenge was against a formidable combined team from Good Shepherd and Heywood. Notably, their roster included a player who recently won the U18 league best and fairest for Cavendish at just 13 years old. Nevertheless, Marliya Karetai bravely matched up against her, demonstrating commendable grit. Maddie Wright shone in the ruck, dominating the play and earning the title of Best on Ground (BOG). Layla Slater, with her electrifying runs and skilful play, and Ruby Packman, our appointed team captain, also stood out. Ruby's leadership, bolstered by her recent experience in the Cavendish U18 Grand Final, was invaluable.

Game 2: Baimbridge vs. Hamilton and Alexandra College

After a brief respite, we faced off against Hamilton and Alexandra College, a team featuring several players from the Cavendish U18s. Our girls quickly adapted, applying lessons from the first game. Layla Slater continued to impress with her speed, earning BOG honours once again, while Marliya Karetai showed remarkable growth, particularly in her understanding of the game. Elizabeth Welst also made her presence felt with critical marks and contributions to play.

Game 3: Baimbridge vs. Bayview College

The third game against Bayview College saw our team focusing on increasing their tackle count. The girls responded brilliantly, displaying great teamwork and spirit. Layla Slater led the charge, supported by Ruby Packman and Marliya Karetai, who showcased her tackling prowess.

Game 4: Baimbridge vs. Monivae College

As fatigue set in, our final game against Monivae College demanded every ounce of our girls' energy and determination. Despite the physicality of the match, they pushed through, with Zara McLean delivering a phenomenal performance, particularly in the midfield. Ruby Packman and Scarlett Donoghue also continued to shine, rounding out the team's consistent effort.

Game 5: Baimbridge vs. Portland Secondary College

In the last match, our girls pulled together for a polished performance against Portland Secondary College. Scarlett Donoghue scored two goals, with Isabella Jury adding another. Mackenzie Beaton, although not scoring, showed great courage and effort. Best on Ground honours went to Isabella Jury, followed closely by Scarlett Donoghue and Mackenzie Beaton. The day concluded with a well-deserved victory against Portland Secondary College, capping off an incredible display of talent and perseverance.

Throughout the day, each player demonstrated significant improvement and teamwork. Notably, Maddie Wright's courageous efforts in the ruck, despite re-injuring her sternum, exemplified the team's resilience. She was swiftly attended to by a volunteer medic, a registered nurse, and transported to hospital. We are relieved to hear that Maddie is recovering well and will be discharged soon, as confirmed by a recent statement from the Branxholme Football Netball Club. We wish Maddie a speedy recovery and a return to sport in the near future.

The standout performer for the entire carnival was undoubtedly Layla Slater, whose consistent excellence and leadership earned her the overall Best on Ground for Baimbridge.

10-12 Girls Football

On August 12, the Baimbridge College girls' football team played a series of matches at Pedrina Park against Monivae College, Good Shepherd, Heywood, and Portland Secondary. Despite not winning any games, the girls showed incredible effort and teamwork throughout the day.

The team came within 10 points of each opponent, which is a great achievement given the tough conditions. A strong northerly wind kept pushing the ball toward one end of the oval, making it difficult for both teams to play their best game. Nevertheless, the girls adapted well and continued to give it their all.

Some standout players were Captain Drew, Bree, Layla, and Erika. Their leadership and skill helped keep the team’s spirits high and their play strong despite the challenging conditions.

Maddie and Ayla were the only players to score goals during the matches. Their goals were a highlight of the day and showed their ability to perform well even when things were tough.

The only injury of the day was Olivia, who bravely went for a mark and ended up with a head collision. Her courage on the field was impressive, and we all hope for her speedy recovery.

Overall, even though the team didn’t get the results they hoped for, they played with great heart and dedication. The Baimbridge College girls' football team should be very proud of how they handled the day.

School Sports Australia National Swimming Championships

In July, Dom H represented our team at the School Sports Australia National Swimming Championships in Queensland, competing against some of the country’s top swimmers. Dom achieved impressive results, placing 4th in the 50-meter Butterfly MC, 200-meter Freestyle MC, 50-meter Freestyle MC, and 200-meter Medley Relay MC events. He also secured 8th place in the 50-meter Backstroke MC and 5th place in the 4x50-meter Freestyle MC Relay. Notably, Dom earned a bronze medal by finishing 3rd in the 100-meter Freestyle MC.

These accomplishments reflect the dedication and hard work Dom has invested in his swimming career. He should take great pride in his performance and the significant strides he has made over the years.

Netball Vic Hamilton

The 7/8 netball team had a great day starting off with a bang winning our first game against Portland Secondary White scoring 13-1 . Unfortunately the girls went down to Monivae Blue 16-1, Ballarat Clarendon College 15-1, Monivae Yellow 2-16, Portland Secondary Blue 8-6 and THAC 4-9. The girls finished up the day with another awesome winning 7-0 over Good Shepherd. Overall the girls learnt a lot and were very grateful to be able to spend the day playing netball in the beautiful sunshine and cant wait to play again next year!

The Year 9/10 netball team had a successful day at Pedrina Park competing in the local Netball Schools Victoria competition. The competition saw schools from around the region compete in short 7 minute half games, with the winning team in each division going to compete at state level later in the year. We had lots of fun and secured wins against local schools, Good Shepherd and Hamilton and Alexander College. Overall, the team won 4 of 6 games, placing us third overall in the intermediate section behind Monivae and Ballarat and Clarendon College. Everyone worked well together and gelled as a team, even when playing in non-familiar positions. We are looking forward to the competition next year, where we hope to go one better and qualify for the state championships in Melbourne.

7/8 Greater Western Region Soccer - Ballarat

A group of Year 7 and 8 students attended the Regional Soccer Tournament in Ballarat, and each one played exceptionally well. Despite having several players who were new to soccer, the more experienced students stepped up to demonstrate outstanding leadership and sportsmanship, guiding their teammates with great care.

Throughout the day, we played four games—losing two, drawing one, and winning one by a decisive 3-0 victory. The students gave their all in every match. Levi Perry stood out with some incredible saves in goal, backed up by Lucas McLachlan, who was solid in defence.

On the attacking front, Sam Platt, Freddie Jury, Max Russell, and Isabelle Field showcased impressive skills, contributing to the team's forward momentum.

The support from our newer players, Mia Kmon, Brennan MacDonald, Scarlett Tosetti, and Wally Morton, was equally remarkable. Despite being new to the sport, they quickly found their rhythm and played with finesse and determination. Logan Charman and Jaxon Mayne also displayed great versatility, excelling in various positions throughout the tournament.

The entire team upheld Baimbridge College's values of Pride, Courage, and Respect, making us proud both on and off the field.

I would like to extend a special thank you to Bella Perry and Woody Perry, who assisted me in the coaching role. Their leadership, wisdom, and support were invaluable to the younger players.

Finally, a huge thank you to Dr. Hill for driving the bus and for his kind words about the students' respect and sportsmanship during the day. His observation was a testament to the character our students consistently displayed.

I am looking forward to seeing how this young team can grow and develop, ready for next year's competition.

Coleraine Shoot

The first shoot of the season was held at Tahara Recreation Reserve, run by the Coleraine Field and Game Club. A great event where students shot 30 rounds at 10 different traps, with a large variety of releases that challenged all competitors.

A great effort by the 5 students who participated in their first filed and game competition – Harvey McKay, Darcey Shipcott, Stephen Bevis, Tristian Bevis and Jake Caruana.

Congratulations to all students. Best results: Archie Coates, Leegen Hura, Jaxon Morgan and Jorja Rundell.

Training is every Friday night, 4.00pm at the Hamilton Gum Club (Port Fairy Rd). Experienced and new shooters welcome.

7/8 Basketball

Year 7 and 8 students spent the day playing basketball, engaging in friendly matches and practicing their skills. The day included drills focused on shooting, passing, and teamwork, fostering both individual improvement and collaboration. Students were divided into teams, competing in a mini-tournament, which encouraged sportsmanship and camaraderie. Overall, it was an energetic and enjoyable day filled with basketball enthusiasm!

GD Badminton/ Table Tennis

The Glenelg District Badminton and Table Tennis competition were held on the 10th of September.

In the Table Tennis competition, we had strong competitors. Mia Kmon and Scarlett Tosetti were victorious in the doubles competitions. Again the Baimbridge girls dominated the Badminton event: Charlotte McClure won the Singles, while Zara Mclean, Isabelle Field and Helena Phillips for combining to win the Girls doubles.

Greater Western Region Athletics

A huge congratulations to all the students who participated in the Greater Western Region Athletics! Your hard work and determination truly shone through, reflecting not just your individual skills but also the supportive spirit of our community. We are incredibly proud of each of you and the energy you brought to the event.

State Athletics

A huge congratulations to our 4 students that represented the school at the State Athletics on Monday the 21st of October. Angus competed in both Shot Put, Discuss and the 4x100m Relay alongside Dylan, Sam, and Isaac.

Angus won the discuss with an impressive throw of 57.78meters. Angus also placed 3rd in Shot Put and left with a PB.

The 15 Year Boys 4x100 meter relay team also competed late on Monday evening, and ended up placing 7th by a small margin of 2.49 seconds.

9/10 Super 8's Cricket

Even though the Year 9 and 10 cricket teams ended the day without a win, they displayed incredible resilience and spirit. Each player showed great sportsmanship and a dedication to improvement, finding joy in teamwork and skill development. The day served as a valuable learning experience, leaving them inspired and eager to enhance their game for future matches.

Warrnambool Clay Target Shoot

21 students enjoyed perfect day at Warrnambool Clay Target Club, where 17 schools and 200 shooters were represented.

The competition involved shooting at 20 targets over 2 rounds. This high gun was awarded to a student from Mortlake with a score of 20/20!!!! Baimbridge students scored pleasing results

All Schools Athletics

On Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th Angus competed in the All schools Track and Field where he also come 1st in the Discuss and 3rd in the Shot Put. Angus is now off to the National All Schools Track and Field Championships on the 6-8th December in Queensland. This is a great effort for Angus and we wish him all the best.

GD Golf

Last week Baimbridge hosted the Glenelg District Golf Tournament. We had perfect weather for the event on the lush surrounds of the Hamilton Golf Club. Tamati Manaia put in a solid performance in the year 9/10 competition ,however the biggest mention goes to Zander Ewing for winning the 7/8competition on a count back.
