Athletics

Training

Athletics training continues on Wednesdays only. 

Training takes place at Dunbar Park from 3:50 pm - 4:50 pm. Students will be transported by bus to and from the venue. Bus will leave via Anderson St at 3:15 pm. There is an option for students to be collected from the venue. If not collected by 4:55 pm, they will return to school on the bus provided.

Athletics Invitational Carnival

On Saturday, 29 August, the Athletics squad took part in the first Athletics Invitational Carnival of the season held at SOPAC. Blessed with sunny skies, it was a great day for our athletes to participate in a more competitive environment. Well done to those who attended. 

Invitational Carnival - 5 September - Volunteers Needed!

St Pius X College will be hosting the Athletics Invitational Carnival with Field events on Saturday, 5 September at ES Marks Field in Kensington. It will run roughly from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm.

ISA Basketball 2026/27 Clipboard registrations 

Thank you to the families who have already completed their registration for the upcoming ISA Basketball season. Your prompt response is greatly appreciated.

Team nominations have now been submitted to the ISA, and our grading process is underway.

• Year 9 registrations have now reached capacity.

• There are still a small number of places available in the Year 10 and 11 age groups.

• For Year 7 and 8, any remaining late registrations will be placed in our Internal Development Basketball Program, as ISA team numbers have now been finalised.

Basketball Holiday Camps

• Final details for our upcoming Basketball Holiday Camps are currently being finalised in partnership with Asensi Elite Training (AET).

• We are excited to confirm that camp information, including dates, times, costs and registration details, will be released to families next week. We look forward to providing another fantastic development opportunity for our basketball players during the school holidays.

Parent Communication Channel

The Basketball Supporters Club, led by Miled Sawakid (Club President), is currently exploring the establishment of a parent communication network to help strengthen connections within the SPX Basketball community. 

Over the coming weeks, families will be provided with information on how to opt in to receive Basketball Supporters Club communications. This network will support:

• Fundraising initiatives

• Season launch and social events

• Parent gatherings and community engagement opportunities

• Basketball program updates and Supporters Club activities

The aim is to provide families with more opportunities to connect, support the programme and contribute to the continued growth of SPX Basketball. Further details regarding the opt-in process will be shared shortly.

Please note that due to ongoing works in both the SPX Gym and at Oxford Falls, all grading times, dates and venues remain subject to change. Any amendments will be communicated promptly to students and families via the usual school communication channels.

Students are only eligible to attend grading sessions if they have completed their registration through Clipboard.

Please note that with only one court available at Oxford Falls, trials may feel a little slower that previous years.

Basketball Uniform

Can be purchased from the College Uniform Shop 

• SPX basketball shorts
• SPX playing singlets

Players selected in Development Teams will be provided with a coloured singlet for the season.

Travel Requirements for ISA Basketball

Please note that ISA Basketball is a home-and-away competition. While many fixtures will be played locally, some teams may be required to travel to venues such as Bowral, Bathurst, the Central Coast and Penrith throughout the season.

Students selected in an ISA team are expected to travel with their team to these venues as part of their commitment to the program. We appreciate that these fixtures require additional planning from families and will provide draws and travel information as early as possible once they are released by the ISA.

Years 7–10 Trials - Continuing Next Week

MWJCA Cricket Trials continue next week, with teams finalised ahead of Round 1 next Saturday. 

A note for students trialling: representative requirements mean some students will be playing up an age group. If that applies to you, please join the training of the age group above your own rather than your own year's session. If you're unsure, students are asked to speak with a coach before next week's trials.

Cricket Skills Day - Friday 2 October 2026

A Cricket Skills Day run by Cricket Appeal will be held on Friday 2 October, during the Term 3 holidays. A BBQ lunch will be provided.

From SPX Football Supporters' Club

A big thank you to everyone who joined us at the St Pius X Football End of Season Event on Saturday night. Please find a few photos attached.

It was a fantastic evening and a great opportunity to come together, catch up and celebrate what has been another terrific season of football.

The success of St Pius X Football is built around a wonderful community of players, parents, carers, coaches, managers and volunteers, and we are incredibly grateful for the support and enthusiasm everyone has shown throughout the season.

We hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we did. It was great to see so many familiar faces, share a few laughs and celebrate the season together.

Thank you again for your support of St Pius X Football and the Football Supporters Club.

SPX Rugby Club Jersey Presentation Evening

The SPX Rugby Club is pleased to invite all Open's players and their families to attend the 2026 Jersey Presentation Evening

Squash

Round 4 provided plenty of competitive squash in the Junior Pennant competition. It was another strong showing from our students, with many tightly contested matches and several dominant performances. It has been especially pleasing to see the camaraderie developing within the squad, with players encouraging one another and cheering on some great battles on court.

At Thornleigh, the SPX 6 team produced a strong performance, with Mr Ritchie applauding the students for their effort and determination. SPX 1 also had an impressive win, continuing their strong start to the competition.

At Elanora, it was certainly game on for our SPX teams. Each week the players continue to improve, helped by Jacob’s coaching and his focus on developing some critical shot selections and match-play strategies. The students were hitting the ball with greater pace and beginning to control their shots more consistently, taking their games to the next level.

Well done to all players on another enjoyable and competitive round. We look forward to seeing some strong games next week.

All students who have nominated for NSTA Summer tennis will need to be available for the grading days at Oxford Falls Racquet Club on Saturday 12 and 19 August. More details will be announced shortly.
