At SMDP, our students have been learning about the Jubilee Mascot, Luce. Luce means “light” in Italian and is a powerful symbol for our Catholic faith. She reminds us that Christ is the light who guides us, especially through life’s challenges. Luce’s journey mirrors our own spiritual journey as we strive to walk with faith, hope, and love in our hearts.
Luce wears a yellow raincoat, muddy green boots, and carries a walking staff, representing perseverance and strength as she travels through a storm-ridden landscape. These items symbolise the resilience we are called to have as Christians, trusting in God even when the path is difficult.
Her eyes are adorned with scallop shells, an ancient Christian symbol of pilgrimage and hope reminding us that we are all pilgrims on a journey toward a deeper relationship with God. Her blue hair reflects the blue veil of Mary, Mother of Jesus, who is a model of grace and unwavering faith. Luce also wears rosary beads, encouraging us to pray regularly.
Our students have been inspired by Luce and what she represents being Pilgrims of Hope in our everyday lives walking with purpose, anchored in prayer, and led by faith. We are grateful to Fr Binh and Fr Trac for presenting each school in our Parish with a figurine of Luce, offering us a visual reminder of our shared mission and faith.
Recently, Luce also accompanied our staff on a special Faith Formation Day in the city. As we explored sacred and historical places, we reflected on what it means to be Pilgrims of Hope in today’s world. Carrying Luce with us, we were reminded of the light of Christ guiding our way and the importance of walking together as a faith-filled community committed to spreading hope, love, and peace.
