Student Voice: Our Kids Helping Shape Learning!
Our fantastic Student Voice Committee (SVC) has been hard at work, giving teachers valuable insights into what's on students' minds.
This year, we introduced a new learning strategy called Daily Review. This is a quick, regular practice where students revisit and recall things they've learned before. It's a super effective way to help information "stick" in their brains, based on how we know the brain learns best (we call it 'retrieval practice'). Think of it like a quick warm-up for their memory muscles each day!
We've been using Daily Review specifically in our Maths classes, and we wanted to know what our students thought about it. So, we teamed up with our SVC! The students on the committee worked alongside me and our wonderful Maths Leader, Lauren, to design a clear and engaging poster about Daily Reviews. These posters are now displayed in all our classrooms, helping every student understand why we use Daily Review and how it helps them learn Maths.
The SVC did an amazing job collaborating together. They used their own words and ideas to make sure the message was student-friendly, bringing the student voice right into the heart of our Maths learning. We're incredibly proud of their work!
Parent Support Programs
Our Wellbeing Team have recently connected with a Senior Practitioner from The Children and Parenting Support Service (CaPSS) from the Salvation Army. The Children and Parenting Support Service (CaPSS) support people who are parenting by building parenting skills, fostering connections among families and enhancing interactions with other families. They support families living in the west of Melbourne, in the LGAs of Melton, Wyndham and some areas of Hobsons Bay (Laverton) and Brimbank - Sunshine.
Parenting Information Sessions & Potential On-Site Program!
We recently received some exciting information about parenting sessions happening in our local area that we wanted to pass along to you. These sessions cover a range of helpful topics designed to support parents and carers.
We're also exploring the possibility of hosting a parenting program right here at our school in Term 4! To help us gauge interest and determine which topics would be most valuable to our school community, we've created a short interest form.
If you might be interested in attending a program on-site, please take a moment to fill in the form below. This is just an initial check to see if we have enough interest to make a program happen. We'll be in touch closer to Term 4 if we can confirm a session.
