Ms Brea Terris

Dear Families,
Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the Victorian Government Principals' Conference with school leaders from across Victoria.
It was a great opportunity to hear about the current priorities in education and learn about the work taking place in schools across the state. One of the most pleasing parts of the conference was hearing about many of the initiatives and approaches that we are already implementing here at Swan Hill North Primary School.
There was a strong focus on improving student learning outcomes, student wellbeing and inclusion. As I listened to the presentations and discussions, I felt proud of the work our staff are doing and the positive direction our school is heading.
The conference also provided an opportunity to connect with other school leaders, share ideas and reflect on our own practices. It was great to hear that the work happening at SHNPS aligns closely with the direction of education across Victoria and that we are doing a great job in supporting our students.
The Paver Project
Today notes have been sent home with students about our Paver Project.
As part of the exciting new building works at our school, we are inviting members of our school & community, past and present, to take part in a special opportunity to leave a legacy by purchasing commemorative pavers.
These pavers will be laid within the outdoor areas and pathways, creating a meaningful space that reflects the support, memories, and spirit of our school community.
Families, students, staff, and the local community are all encouraged to participate and become a permanent part of this chapter in our school’s history. More forms are available from the office.
Reconciliation Week
Last week and this week, students and staff at Swan Hill North Primary School have been recognising National Reconciliation Week.
This important week provides an opportunity for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to reflect on how we can work together to build respectful relationships within our communities.
Throughout the week, students participated in a variety of classroom activities that encouraged learning, reflection and discussion.
National Reconciliation Week is an important reminder of the role we all play in creating a more inclusive and respectful future.
At SHNPS, we are committed to fostering a culture of respect, understanding and belonging, and we look forward to continuing these important learning opportunities throughout the year.
AEU Industrial Action
The AEU had previously planned half-day staff strikes for this term. The half-day strike for Swan Hill is scheduled for the morning of Wednesday 17 June.
However, due to the level of negotiations currently taking place, the strikes planned over the coming weeks have now been put on hold.
As soon as we receive further information regarding any potential industrial action, we will communicate this with our school community.
At this stage, the industrial action also means AEU members may choose not to write comments on student reports.
Student reports will still be provided at the end of the term but they make look different this term.
We will share further information regarding student reports closer to the end of term.
School Council
If you are interested in joining our School Council, I encourage you to Tim Dunstan or I for a conversation about what the role involves. Nominations for School Council are open.
2027 Enrolments
If you know of any families who would like a tour of the school, please encourage them to contact the office.
Enrolments are open for 2027! Please contact the school for further information!
Our Come and Try days are coming up soon! Please call the office to book a spot. We have had lots of families reserve a spot to these fantastic sessions.
Duty of Care
Families are reminded that teachers are on duty before school from 8.30am-8.50am and after school from 3.20pm until 3.30pm. Children should not be unattended in the school grounds before or after these times. Thank you for your support and co-operation with this.
Have a lovely weekend.
Kind Regards
Brea
