Catholic Identity

Catholic Identity - Louise Frewen

This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday: Pentecost is a special celebration in the Church when we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples. Filled with courage, joy, and faith, the disciples went out to share Jesus’ message with the world. Pentecost reminds us that the Holy Spirit is always with us, guiding us to live with kindness, love, and compassion each day. As a school community, may we continue to be people of peace and hope, sharing God’s love with others.

Loving God,

Help us to always think of others and not only ourselves. Teach us to choose kindness, include those around us and do what is best for the good of all.

As we celebrate Catholic Education Week, bless our St John’s community of students, staff and families.May our school be a place where peace is sought, love is shared and every person is valued.

Guide us to live the Gospel each day through our learning, relationships, prayer and service. Bless all mothers, grandmothers and special people in our lives, and thank you for the love and care they give so generously.

May we continue to grow together in faith, hope and peace.

Amen.

Our current focus is the Catholic Social Teaching Principle “Common Good” – doing what is best for everyone, not just yourself. This encourages students to think of others, include everyone, show kindness and make choices that strengthen our community.

Aboriginal Spirituality

Aboriginal Spirituality is a source of lore and a way that Aboriginal people communicate their world views. It reflects the ideology that the ancestors returned to the earth which created our sacred and spiritual beliefs.

Genesis 1:26

Then God said, "Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness."

As Catholic educators, the identity and success of Catholic education is linked inseparably to the witness of faith given by the community who truly live their faith. Recognising and acknowledging the rich cultural expertise of Aboriginal spirituality will enrich our experience of the catholic faith.
