Principal's News

We acknowledge the Taungurung people, the traditional custodians of this land and we pay our respect to their elders past, present and emerging.

Dear Families,

I hope all of our families have had a great start to the week. Last week was a very special one at St John’s as we celebrated Catholic Education Week and had the opportunity to come together as a school community in so many wonderful ways. One of the real highlights of the week was our Mother’s Day celebration last Friday. It was wonderful to gather together for our Liturgy before welcoming so many Mums, Grandmothers and Special People into the Mercy Centre for our Mother’s Day High Tea. A special thank you to our amazing parent helpers Hayley Raglus, Belinda Simmons and Kristy Adams for the incredible work setting up the High Tea in the Mercy Centre and for coordinating and running our Mother’s Day gift stalls...your generosity, time and support is so greatly appreciated. Thank you to everyone who came along and supported this special community event. To all of the mother figures in our St John’s community, I hope you had a beautiful day on Sunday and were thoroughly spoilt, thank you for all that you do.

Term 3 Parent/Teacher Meetings

As we move further into Term 2, I also wanted to give families some notice about a few important events and opportunities coming up across the school. Our next Parent Teacher Meetings will be held early in Term 3. These meetings are always a valuable opportunity for families and teachers to come together, celebrate each child’s growth and learning and discuss the Semester 1 Report and next steps for the second half of the year. More information around dates, times and bookings will be shared with families later this term and following the end of Term 2, Semester 1 Reports.

School Camp

As part of our ongoing review of student learning opportunities and camp experiences, Year 3 and 4 students will attend a one night camp at Alexandra Adventure Resort in Week 8 on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th June. This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to continue building independence, resilience, teamwork and confidence while enjoying a range of outdoor adventure activities in a safe and supportive environment. As part of this revised structure our Year 5 and 6 students will then attend a two night camp in 2027. Moving forward students in Years 3 to 6 will experience a one night camp in one year followed by a two night camp the following year as they move through the senior years. We believe this structure provides students with the opportunity to gradually build confidence and camp experience while ensuring they continue to be challenged and supported as they grow.

  • Friday 22nd May – National Walk Safely to School Day. We encourage all families to support this important day by walking, riding or scootering to school where possible. It is also a timely reminder for all drivers, particularly along Anderson Street and near our school entry, to slow down and take extra care during drop off and pick up times to help keep our children safe. We are also hoping this day can raise awareness that we are a school zone along Anderson St and we encourage trucks to slow down or toot when they see our students. I cannot stress enough;it is really important that all children are getting out of the car on the footpath side
  • Friday 5th JunePupil Free Day (Staff Child Safeguarding and Wellbeing Training)
  • Monday 8th JuneKing’s Birthday Public Holiday
