Volunteering in School

We are fortunate to have many parents volunteering their time to support our school community, whether it be with helping in classrooms, attending excursions and camps, or assisting at whole-school events such as the Colour Fun Run and our working bees. We truly value and appreciate the wonderful support of our families, and many of these opportunities would not be possible without your generosity and involvement.

To volunteer at Parkhill everyone requires a valid Working With Children Check and has to attend a Volunteer OH&S Induction. We will keep a record of those who have fulfilled these important requirements.

If you need to apply or update your Working with Children check, click here and complete the required information. There is no charge for a Volunteer Working with Children Check.

Under the Child Safe Standards, ALL volunteers must have an appropriate induction and training in child safety and wellbeing. This includes familiarising themselves with the policies, procedures, and code of conduct outlined in our Child Safety Induction Pack. The induction must be completed annually to ensure all volunteers remain up to date with current requirements.

We are currently in the process of updating this information and will be sending details shortly about how families can complete the induction requirements.

We appreciate your understanding and compliance with the Department requirements for volunteers working in schools. Together we can ensure that processes are in place to provide a safe environment for everyone.

Emergency Drills

The safety and security of our students and staff are an important part of everyday school life, and safety drills are run each term to maintain a safe and secure environment for all members of the school community.

The school’s emergency and evacuation procedures are reviewed regularly and our students participate in appropriate safety drills e.g. evacuation, lockdown. Practice drills are run to prepare the students for what to do in the event of an emergency.

There will be a practice drill on Friday 5 June, and we will evacuate to our primary meeting point in the oval. If you are in school volunteering during this time, you will also need to evacuate to the meeting point.

Teachers will discuss the scenarios and talk through what happens in class:

  • what the alarm sounds like
  • listening for announcement
  • following your teacher’s instruction
  • location of meeting point

You can help by speaking with your child about emergency drills to promote their safety at school. Please talk about the importance of these drills by reinforcing our messages “listen to the teacher in charge” and “follow instructions”.

If you have any questions regarding the safety drills or other safety concerns, please contact the school office.

Second Hand Uniform

We would also like to thank Kaitlyn T (Elliot & Thea) and Stephanie W (Myf) who have generously organised and sorted donations for our second-hand uniform collection. Families are welcome to come by the office during school hours to access spare uniform items. A gold coin donation would be appreciated.

Spare Clothes

As we move into the winter months, we have noticed that a number of children have become muddled during playtime and needed a change of clothes. We kindly ask families to pack a spare set of clothing — including pants, socks, and a shirt — in their child’s school bag, should it be needed.

While we do keep a small supply of spare clothing at school, we are unable to guarantee that suitable items will always be available when required.

Events on Compass

We currently have a number of excursions taking place, and we kindly ask families to ensure that consent and payments are completed by the due date on Compass. Receiving these on time allows us to effectively plan for transport, staffing, and student supervision requirements.

Reminders via Compass are emailed prior to each event. Please check that these emails are not being directed to your junk or spam folder so you do not miss important information.

For families with unallocated or unspent SSB and Camps, Sports, and Excursions Fund (CSEF) funds, we will use these to support student participation in future school activities, including excursions, incursions, and camps, before requesting any additional payment from families. As a result, some upcoming events for your child/ren may appear at no charge or with adjustments on Compass. However, kindly note that you will still be required to provide consent for the event.

Year 6 to 7 Placement – 2027

Thank you to all families for returning your forms for placement. We have been in contact with the High Schools and expect to hear back from them later in the term. Families will receive further communication about placement offers made by the end of Term 2.

Foundation (Prep) Enrolments – 2027

Enrolments for Foundation (Prep) 2027 are now open.

If you have a child starting school in 2027 or know of friends or family within the community who are considering our school, we encourage you to reach out to the office for enrolment information. Detailed information, including enrolment forms and key dates, is also available on our school website.

We recommend submitting enrolment applications as early as possible to support planning for the 2027 school year.

If you have any questions regarding either process, please contact the office on

9807 2239 or via email at parkhill.ps@education.vic.gov.au, we are here to assist!
