SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING

Term 4 is a period of reflection, celebration, and preparation. Our Social and Emotional Learning lessons are designed to build self-worth, respect, and confidence as students reflect on how much they have grown this year and prepare for the exciting changes ahead—whether that is moving to a new classroom or transitioning to secondary school.

Our junior students (Prep - 2) will continue to focus on the importance of inclusion and respect in friendships, learning that activities, toys, and games can be enjoyed by everyone. They celebrate their unique interests and strengths. As the term draws to a close, lessons shift toward transition. Junior students will practise identifying feelings around change, celebrating their growth over the year, and learning simple coping tools for moving into a new classroom.

Our 3/4s will learn about respectful boundaries. Lessons focus on assertive communication, fair play, and respecting personal boundaries in physical and social spaces. They will continue to explore how to treat everyone with dignity, respect, and equality regardless of differences. In preparation for their next steps students will reflect on their academic and personal achievements this year, building self-efficacy and strategies to manage nervous energy as they prepare for the step up to senior primary.

Our senior school 5/6's explore critical thinking skills and positive relationships. They will practise strategies to challenge peer pressure and promote respectful behaviors both online and offline. A major focus for Year 6 (and preparation for Year 5 leaders) is navigating major life changes. Students will explore the emotions surrounding graduation and moving to secondary school. Lessons cover problem-solving, identifying personal support networks, and maintaining resilience during periods of change.

How You Can Support at Home

  • Talk about growth: Ask your child, "What is something you can do now that you couldn't do at the start of the year?"
  • Encourage open choices: Support your child's varied interests, sports, and hobbies without limit or comparison.
  • Normalise mixed feelings about change: Validate that feeling both excited and nervous about next year is completely normal, and talk through who they can reach out to for support.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership in supporting our students' wellbeing and resilience!
