Inquiry Topics for Term 4

Prep Focus

Topsy Turvy Tales

Students will practise thinking creatively and use their imagination as they explore traditional tales. They will learn words that describe the properties of different materials. The rationale for this unit is to help students think creatively and build the confidence to explore new environments and solve new problems.

Year 1/2 Focus

Robot Buddies

During this unit of work, students will work to design and build a robot using craft materials. They will learn about the properties of different materials and consider which ones to use to build their robot. Students will practise striving for accuracy as they design and build new objects and write instructions for others to follow. The rationale behind this unit is for students to learn about the design process and how it encourages us to consider how we use objects in our lives and how we can select materials to design and build new objects.

Year 3/4 Focus

Frame by Frame

This term, students will explore their creativity by developing their own simple story, including characters, settings and props. They will create a storyboard, build a set and props, and use photography to bring their story to life through stop-motion animation. Students will then edit their animations using digital technology and proudly share their finished creations at our Creativity Expo. This unit helps students develop their creativity while solving problems, learning new skills, innovating, and communicating effectively.

Year 5/6 Focus

Bizarre Bazaar

Students will gain a real-life understanding of the design and production process and the different resources and sales tactics used to create and market products. They will brainstorm a product idea and conduct market research to refine it. Students will work in groups to prototype and produce their product using craft and recyclable materials. They will sell their products at a school community market called 'Bizarre Bazaar,' and the proceeds will go to a charity the class selects. Students will be more discerning about how products are produced and marketed and aware of the sales tactics used to persuade them to buy something. They will apply creative thinking to anything they design and/or produce. Students will be better able to work collaboratively with others toward a common goal.
