Year 5

Year 5 OC Excursion – Royal National Park Education Centre

This week, our Year 5 Opportunity Class students had a wonderful day at the Royal National Park Education Centre, joining OC classes from other schools in our Community of Practice for a day of learning, exploration and creativity.

Students participated in three engaging activities focused on native birds and their habitats. The bushwalk and birdwatching session was a big hit. Students explored Lady Carrington Drive, created sound maps, identified birds by sight and sound, and observed bird behaviours. The day also included Science fieldwork and a hands-on Visual Arts workshop.

Throughout the excursion, students demonstrated curiosity, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn from the natural environment. It was a fantastic opportunity to develop their scientific observation skills, creativity and understanding of the environment, while connecting with students from other schools.

Our students had wonderful time. It was a memorable day of learning, collaboration and fun in the beautiful surroundings of the Royal National Park.

Year 6

Year 6 Gala Day at Hurstville Public School

Hurstville Public School recently celebrated a fantastic Year 6 Gala Day, an event that brought students, families, and staff together for a vibrant day filled with fun and unity. Led by the Year 6 students, the Gala featured a creative array of activities and games—many of which were designed, made, and organised by the students themselves. Children from Kindergarten to Year 5 eagerly joined in, making the most of the opportunity to try new games, show their talents, and connect with peers across the grades.

The positive energy and excitement were unmistakable throughout the day, and it was wonderful to see the school community coming together and supporting Year 6’s efforts. Thanks to remarkable teamwork and school spirit, the Year 6 students successfully raised over $7,000. This generous gift will be donated back to the school, helping to further enrich the learning experiences and resources for all students. Congratulations to Year 6 for their outstanding leadership, creativity, hard work and generosity!
