A message from Miss Russell

Welcome Back

Welcome to Term 4

As we settle into Term 4, it has been wonderful to see our students returning to school ready for another busy and exciting term of learning. With the warmer weather upon us, we would like to remind families of a few important school expectations to ensure a positive and productive finish to the year.

Warmer Weather, School Hats and Summer Uniform

With the warmer days arriving, we remind all families of the importance of ensuring students bring their school hat each day. Hats are essential for sun protection during outdoor learning activities, recess and lunch breaks. Please ensure your child's hat is clearly labelled with their name to help us return misplaced items.

Students are now expected to wear the correct summer school uniform, including the appropriate footwear. A reminder that black school shoes are required on regular school days, with sports shoes to be worn only on designated sport days.

We ask families to check that all uniform items, including hats, jumpers, jackets, lunchboxes and drink bottles, are clearly labelled. As the weather warms up, students are also encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle each day to stay hydrated.

We appreciate the support of our families in ensuring students arrive at school looking smart, feeling comfortable and ready to learn.

Every Minute Matters – School Starts at 9:00 am

A friendly but important reminder that school begins promptly at 9:00 am, and the expectation is that all students are present and ready for morning assembly at this time.

Arriving at school on time allows students to begin their day calmly, hear important announcements, connect with their teachers and classmates, and transition smoothly into their learning.

Even arriving five or ten minutes late each day can add up to a significant amount of missed learning over the course of a term.

We encourage families to establish consistent morning routines and aim to arrive a few minutes before the bell to ensure students are ready for the school day.

Attendance Matters – Every Day Counts

Student attendance continues to be a key focus at Hurstville Public School. Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in supporting student learning, wellbeing and academic success.

When students attend school consistently, they build strong relationships, develop confidence, establish positive routines and benefit from the full range of learning opportunities available to them.

Missing school, even occasionally, can create gaps in learning and make it more difficult for students to maintain friendships and keep up with classroom activities.

We understand that there are times when students are unwell and need to remain at home. However, wherever possible, we encourage families to schedule appointments and holidays outside school hours and term dates.

We also remind families to explain all student absences promptly through the Sentral Parent Portal or by contacting the school office.

Every school day matters, and every minute of learning counts. Thank you to our families for working in partnership with us to support strong attendance and punctuality.

Welcoming Our 2027 Opportunity Class Students

We are very excited to welcome our incoming 2027 Opportunity Class (OC) students to Hurstville Public School for their first orientation session in Week 4.

This is always a special time as we begin welcoming our newest students and their families into the HPS community.

Our orientation program provides students with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with their new school environment, meet staff, connect with future classmates and begin building friendships ahead of their transition into Year 5 in 2027.

We also look forward to meeting our new OC families and sharing information about the wonderful learning opportunities, programs and experiences available at Hurstville Public School.

We understand that starting at a new school can bring a mixture of excitement and nerves, and our aim is to ensure every student feels welcomed, supported and confident as they prepare for this exciting next chapter.

Finishing the Year Strong

Term 4 is always a busy and rewarding time, filled with learning celebrations, special events, transition activities and opportunities to recognise the achievements of our students.

As we move towards the end of the school year, we encourage all students to maintain their focus on learning, demonstrate our school expectations and continue showing kindness and respect towards others.

Thank you to our wonderful families for your ongoing support and partnership. Together, we can ensure a positive, productive and successful conclusion to 2026.

We look forward to a fantastic term ahead!

Shrub Planting

The gardening club has been busy planting a number of seedlings in garden beds around the school.

These plants were generously donated by Georges River Council last term.

The Council has long supported the environment around our school and we appreciate their continued support.

The gardening team enjoy planting these new seedling and caring for them.

Thank you Georges River Council!!

Reminder – Early Student Pick-Up

A reminder to all parents and carers: if you need to collect your child early from school, you must organise all early pick-ups through the Front Office.

Please enter the school via the Forest Road pedestrian gate and proceed directly to the Front Office. Office staff will contact your child’s classroom and have them come to the office to meet you.

For the safety and supervision of all students, parents and carers are asked not to walk through the playground or go directly to classrooms to collect their child.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us maintain a safe and secure environment for all students.
