A message from Mr Steed

Welcome to the Belltower Buzz!!
Launching our student created podcast platform
Today, we are excited to officially launch the Belltower Buzz, a student-led and student-created podcast that highlights various aspects of life and important events at Hurstville Public School, told through the perspectives and voices of our students.
The concept of the student podcast has been a year in the making, developed collaboratively by a team of students and teachers. Together, they worked to create the idea, acquire the skills needed to script and record podcast content, and edit the recordings into complete episodes.
I am extremely proud of the dedication and effort shown by our student podcast team this year, and the results truly speak for themselves. I would also like to extend my gratitude to our committed teachers who have supported and guided our students throughout this journey.
The Belltower Buzz podcast is now available to listen to on a dedicated page on the school website. You can access it directly via the following link:
Take the opportunity to listen to the podcast episodes. You will be blown away by the skills of our students and the way they have crafted the podcast. Happy listening!!!
World Teachers' Day - Friday 30 October 2026
Recognise a Teaching Gem!
World Teachers’ Day is coming up on Friday 30 October, and we would love our families to help us celebrate the wonderful teachers at Hurstville Public School who make a difference every day.
As part of a statewide celebration, NSW school communities are invited to recognise their teaching gems - those special teachers who inspire, encourage and leave a lasting impression.
Simply click the link below, select Message, enter our school's postcode (2220) and your teacher's initials, and leave a few words of appreciation.
Here's the lovely part! We will be printing each message and proudly displaying them on the walls of our staffroom, so our teachers can see just how much they are valued and appreciated by our school community.
Messages are completely anonymous, so why not brighten a teacher's day with a few kind words?
School Counsellor and School Psychologist Recognition Day - Friday 7 November
Friday 7 November is School Counsellor and School Psychologist Recognition Day. We would like to acknowledge the contribution our amazing school counsellors and school psychologists - Ms Nadia Vares, Ms Aneta Hawro Rudd and Ms Esther Lee - makeand thank them for their care, their insights and their collaboration with everyone at Hurstville.
We would also like to acknowledge the impact that the senior psychologists, in particular Ms Claire Drake, and leaders psychology practice also make to the lives of students, families and teachers at Hurstville every day.
This year's theme is 'Together We Grow' which celebrates the role of school counsellors and psychologists in creating the conditions for growth - within students, school communities and the profession itself.
2027 Student Intentions – Returning to Hurstville Public School
As we begin planning for the 2027 school year, we ask all families to confirm whether their child will be returning to Hurstville Public School next year.
In Week 2, families were emailed our annual Intention to Return form via School Bytes. This year, the form is being completed electronically, replacing the traditional green paper form sent home in Term 4.
We ask all families to complete the form, even if your child will be returning to Hurstville Public School as usual. Your responses help us plan student enrolments, class structures and staffing for 2027.
If you have any difficulty accessing or completing the form, please contact the school office for assistance.
2027 Class Placements and Structure - Term 4 Reminder
Each year during Term 4, our school leadership and grade teams dedicate significant time to planning the class structure, staffing, and student placements for the upcoming school year. We have now started the process for 2027.
When organising classes, many factors are taken into account to ensure the best possible outcomes for every child. Alongside the NSW Department of Education’s guidelines regarding class sizes at different year levels, we also consider:
- Academic achievement levels
- Special needs (High Potential and Gifted, Learning and Support, special assistance)
- EAL/D status (length of time learning English)
- Medical concerns
- Relationships that should be maintained or separated (teacher–student, student–student)
- Behavioural issues or concerns
- Relevant family circumstances
- Students receiving additional funding support
- Current referrals to the Learning Support Team
- Teacher allocation
If you have specific concerns about your child’s placement relating to any of these factors, please contact one of our Deputy Principals, Ms Russell, or Mr Renshaw, by phone or email as soon as possible. Waiting until the start of the new school year to raise these matters is too late.
We are committed to doing our very best for every student and appreciate your support with this process.
By the end of this term, a proposed class structure will be finalised. However, as always, we will review and adjust the overall class structure in the early weeks of the new school year, once all 2027 enrolment information is confirmed.
