Emergency Management

We want to let you know about our school’s emergency management plan. Our school plans for a range of hazards, such as bushfire, severe weather, medical emergencies and building fires. We develop specific response procedures to address these risks. It is important for our whole school community to know that our school has been identified as being at risk of bushfire or grassfire and is a Category 4 school. This means that our school will close on a day forecasted as Catastrophic fire danger rating in the Central fire district. Closure of the school due to a Catastrophic fire danger rating will be enacted when the Bureau of Meteorology forecast and related public safety messaging are confirmed. Due to uncertainties in the forecast, the timing of this confirmation may vary. Information regarding potential or confirmed Catastrophic fire danger days will be communicated with families using Sentral.

Whooping Cough

As you will be aware, our school is managing whooping cough cases. Whooping cough is a serious and very contagious respiratory infection. It should be diagnosed by a doctor and treated immediately to lessen the risk of a serious illness and stop the spread to others. The health and safety of our school community is paramount, and we aim to protect all of us at Teesdale Primary School and ensure that students can return to school as soon as they are well.

Please monitor your child for symptoms of whooping cough. Symptoms of whooping cough include a blocked or runny nose, tiredness, mild fever and severe bouts of coughing, which are often followed by a 'whooping' sound on breathing.

If your child becomes unwell, please see a doctor for diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible.

Behaviour Flowchart

Earlier this term, we launched our new behaviour flowchart. The flowchart is a component of our School-Wide Positive Behaviour System, or SWPBS. The Behaviour Flowchart is in place to protect learning time and ensure we are responding in a systematic way to student behaviour.

We have had 1000 brand new tokens made and these are in circulation across the school to acknowledge positive behaviours. In recent weeks we have been excited to see a record number of tokens collected by each House and we celebrate this each Friday afternoon.

Policy Updates

This week, we have added a new page to our Newsletter where you can access updated policies and other documentation. Documented policies are the means by which the Department of Education and the school community set out the school’s position on a particular topic. Policies are important tools that reflect the school's values and support the school’s compliance with the Minimum Standards for School Registration, including the Child Safe Standards. The Department of Education provides advice and guidance for school policies, to ensure they meet legislative requirements.

Our policy in focus this week is the Respect for School Staff policy which connects with our school values and respectful interactions.

Celebrating Term 3!

It is hard to believe we are close to reaching the end of another term, but we also have a lot to celebrate! This term, our school has celebrated learning with Student Led Conferences, participated in school visits for professional learning, opened our doors to visitors as part of our Professional Learning Community leadership, celebrated Book Week, welcomed the Teesdale Kinder visit, and last week selected students represented our school at the Division Athletics competition incredibly well with success shown through ribbons, sportsmanship and our school values. This week we finalise the term with a special lunch and team colours!

End of Term Reminders

As we reach the end of term, a reminder that students are welcome to wear footy or their team colours this Friday. Our School Leaders are fundraising for MND Australia and ask that students bring a gold coin donation. We will also celebrate SWAG awards at 2pm on Friday, prior to students being dismissed from school early at 2:30pm.

I hope that all of our families have a wonderful break together over the school holidays and we will see you all for the beginning of Term 4 on Monday October 7.
