Social Media and Messaging Apps

Hi Families,

As part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring a safe and productive learning environment for our students, I want to take a moment to remind you of some facts when it comes to social media.

  • TikTok states that it is intended for users over the age of 13.
  • Snapchat states that it is intended for users over the age of 13.
  • Instagram states that it is intended for users over the age of 13.
  • Facebook states that it is intended for users over the age of 13.
  • Messenger states that it is intended for users over the age of 13.

No students at Teesdale Primary school are over the age of 13, yet unfortunately our day-to-day operations have seen an increase in solving problems that students are facing when using social media at home.

We understand that communication is an essential part of your child’s social development. If your decision is to allow your child to use a messaging app, it is crucial to monitor their use to prevent potential misuse. Reviewing your child’s daily messaging activity can help you stay informed about their online interactions and ensure that their communication remains positive and respectful.

Unfortunately, we are finding that many hours of teacher’s time are being spent supporting students through social dilemmas that have occurred at home on messenger apps. This means less time teaching.

Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for all students. If you have any questions or need further guidance on managing your child’s online activities, please feel free to contact us.

If we work together, anything is possible for our students and our community.
