Next week is a big week, and not just because International Star Wars Day is celebrated on May the 4th. We are actually excited about the delivery of Teen Mental Health First Aid training, held here at school, funded by Alpine Shire Council and delivered by the Mental Health Coach. Over three face-to-face sessions (4th-6th May), our year 8 and year 10 students will undergo this invaluable training developed using the evidence-based research of Mental Health First Aid. By the end, our students will be equipped with the information, skills and action plans to navigate their own mental health challenges, support their peers, and seek out help from a trusted adult at the right time.
World Asthma Day, on Tuesday 5th May, is a great reminder to ensure that those with asthma always have their inhalers and spacers accessible. With the current planned burns in the area increasing the levels of smoke haze, along with the cool air particularly in the mornings, asthma symptoms can be more easily triggered. It is a good reminder to everyone to monitor for asthma symptoms, review with your GP as needed and keep the school up to date with any changes to action plans.
Finally, Do It For Dolly Day is on Friday 8th May. Thanks to the work of our Student Representative Council, the school held a fundraiser at the end of last term, which saw a wonderful $112 raised for this charity. This will go towards raising awareness, spreading kindness and ultimately putting an end to bullying. To recognise this day, students are invited to wear a splash of blue amongst their uniform.
