Dear Students and Families,
What a wonderful start to the year we have had. It's been so heartwarming to see you all and reconnect with everyone. We began the Term with the Welcome back Pizza and picnic, which showcased our great community. A huge thank you to all the parents and students that helped make the event so wonderful, a special thank you to Hannah Marshal, Geoff Rundell and Yvette Lanfranca for organising the event and their hard work.
It's been a busy term, we have had excursions to Art Play, Swimming Carnival, Grade 6 Camp coming up, Soccer skills training and much more.
Berry St Model training
As Collingwood College staff we originally participated in the Berry St Model wellbeing training back in 2017 and have been using many of their strategies since then. Last year we decided to revisit the training and build on our understanding of great teaching and wellbeing ideas. The Berry St Model was originally based on supporting students with Trauma, however the skills and classroom strategies you learn are perfect for all students. On the student free day, we were lucky to have the Berry St supporting and teaching us about stamina and the importance of Brain breaks. Over the next few weeks teachers will be planning and looking at how we can incorporate our new ideas into our everyday teaching and interactions with our students.
Eye Care
This year we are working with Student Eye Care as part of the governments initiative to provide eye care support to all children. Similar to the Dental initiative, you need to fill out a consent form with your Medicare card details for your child to access the Service. Please reach out to May in the front office if you would like to register.
Soccer skills training
We are extremely lucky to have the team from Yarra youth services working with some students in grades 5 & 6 and supporting our Soccer games on Wednesday lunchtimes. Soccer is by far the most popular sport at Collingwood College. Jade and the other Yarra youth support staff are providing lesson as well as strategies around Soccer play.
