Sustainability Festival

Last week, ten Year 5 students had the exciting opportunity to attend the 21st Annual School Sustainability Festival at St Kilda Town Hall.

The festival brought together students from primary and secondary schools to share ideas, learn from one another and celebrate sustainability. Our students proudly presented a workshop inspired by our Kitchen Garden, “Teas, Leaves and Seeds,” sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm with other students.

We also took part in workshops run by other schools, where we discovered lots of new ideas and learned about different ways we can care for our environment.

The day continued with a walk to the Botanical Gardens, where we participated in further activities run by CERES, the EcoCentre and Bunjil.

It was a wonderful day of learning, sharing and connecting with other young people who are passionate about making a positive difference to our environment!

“I liked learning about microplastics and how it causes problems in animals. I am going to start using reusable items and less plastic.” - Ayla

“I really found it interesting making the bee hotels and how to make something sustainable out of things that aren’t usually good for the environment.” - Eve

“I liked learning about all the different marine animals. And I also really liked doing our workshop and explaining all of the different herbs.” - Orlo

 “I liked delivering our workshop. I also liked making the insect hotels because I want to help animals.” - Julius

” I liked presenting our workshop. And I enjoyed painting the sugar glider house and leaning that they are called sugar gliders because the mostly eat sweet stuff.” - Lucas

“I loved learning about the different bee pollinator hotels and I am interested in making my own sand and clay hotel for home.” - Loretta

 “I really enjoyed telling people how we have transformed a grass patch into a productive garden where we learn and eat different things.” - Edward
