Year 2

Year Two recently shared their learning at our whole school assembly, giving the MEPS community a glimpse into what we have been exploring in the classroom.
This term, along with their 'Me at MEPS' integrated unit, year two students have been diving into the imaginative world of Australian author and illustrator Nick Bland. Through a range of his books, including The Very Cranky Bear, When Henry Caught Imaginitis, How to Hatch a Dragon and The Unscary Book, students have been exploring story structure, comparing plots and examining the way illustrations add meaning to a story.
Inspired by Bland’s playful storytelling and distinctive illustrations, students have created their own artwork, including imaginative “unscary monsters” and colourful paper dragons made by following step-by-step visual instructions.
Alongside our author study, Year Two is also enjoying the classic class novel The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. Students are eagerly following the adventures of Joe, Beth and Frannie as they climb the magical tree, meet fascinating characters and discover new lands at the top.
Students also used their voice to decide what they would share at assembly and chose to highlight a wonderful student initiative. Ruby has started a lunchtime Drawing Club with Mr Kent and Ms Chester, where students can come along to draw together and learn how to sketch things like dragons, castles, elephants and even unscary monsters.
We are incredibly proud of our Year Two students for confidently sharing their learning with the school community.
