VET

Over the past couple of weeks year many 11 & 12 students have commenced their VET (Vocational Education & Training) programs for the year and are designed to expand opportunities and pathways for students. VET courses form part of VCE & VCE-VM programs allowing students to gain  practical skills in an industry of interested in.

Students value VET because it:

  • allows them to combine general and vocational studies which for many, provides a practical focus in a range of industry areas
  • provides direct experience of business and industry
  • enables them to explore training in areas that will enhance their pathway choices.

Employers value VET because it:

  • contributes to the development of entry level skills for their industry
  • provides students with a practical and focused introduction to workplace requirements
  • enhances the employability of students
  • enables industry to contribute to educational programs in schools
  • enables industry to participate in local community networks.

Year 10 Work Experience - Message from Marsha Maver-Baxter (Year 10 Work Experience Coordinator)

All year 10 students will be participating in work experience in Week 2, Term 3

Dates: Monday 20th July – Friday 24th July

This term Voyager teachers will be starting discussions with your child regarding this process. Towards the middle of Term 1 and throughout Term 2, I will be joining Voyager and Wellbeing classes to outline expectations, guidance and support to your child as they seek and secure a work placement. In Voyager, students will complete the mandatory modules and paperwork required for Work Experience.

Now is the perfect time for students to start exploring placement options and securing a position that aligns with their interests.

While students are expected to find a placement themselves, both their teachers and I are available to assist them throughout the process.

I will also be available in Pathways at recess, lunch, and afterschool if they need assistance.

The earlier you make enquiries the more likely students will be able to secure their chosen Work Experience.

Finalised paperwork is due no later than Friday May 29th.

I appreciate your support in discussing potential placements at home and encouraging your child to take initiative in finding a suitable placement.
