Celebrating Home Learning!

This term, we proudly launched our new home learning program, and it has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and commitment from our students. We would like to take a moment to celebrate those who have gone above and beyond, showing dedication, responsibility and a positive attitude towards their learning at home. These students have truly embraced the opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom, and their efforts have not gone unnoticed. At this week’s whole school assembly, we were delighted to recognise these individuals as our Home Learning Legend Award recipients. We are incredibly proud of the way our students are rising to the challenge and developing strong learning habits that will support them well into the future.

Home Learning - How it works

Home Learning booklets will be sent home again in Week 1 of Term 2. At Whittlesea Primary School, we believe that home learning should support both student learning and overall wellbeing. Research highlights the importance of allowing children time to rest and recharge after formal lessons, helping them return to school feeling refreshed and ready to engage. With this in mind, our approach to home learning focuses on reading for enjoyment, reinforcing previously taught skills, and ensuring students have time for play.

Our home learning motto is Reading. Practise. Play.

We Want Students To:

  • Read for pleasure – choose books they love, enjoy stories and explore new worlds through reading. In Years F-2, students will be given levelled take-home readers or can read online using the Little Learners Love Literacy Library.  In Years 3-6, students can borrow a book from the library
  • Practise and become fluent – revisit skills taught at school in a way that helps them feel confident and capable
  • Play and have fun – learning through play helps our brains grow and supports clever thinking in reading, maths and creativity.

What We Are Asking Students To Do

  • Read at least 3 nights each week
  • Use your booklet to record the nights you read.

Additional Learning Tasks

We also provide a range of online learning tools to support your child's learning and make it fun:

  • Reading Eggs – builds reading skills through games and activities.
  • Mathletics – practises maths concepts with engaging challenges.
  • Essential Assessment – includes Sunset Maths gameplay, and personalised pathways like My Numeracy and My Literacy to help focus on learning goals.

Login details for the above online learning tools were provided earlier this term.  If your child needs a new set of login details, please let their classroom teacher know.

What Happens Next...

At the end of each term, a reminder will be posted on Compass to return completed Home Learning booklets to school.

Students who show dedication will be celebrated as Home Learning Legends at the end of the term! We can’t wait to celebrate our students’ success next term!
