Newsletter end Term 3 2026

Last Saturday, Angus Moffatt and William Gladman performed in the epic Victorian state schools spectacular at John Cain Arena, as members of the orchestra. This event draws talented state school performers from across Victoria in an amazing production that is months in the making. 

Congratulations to both these students for their hard work in preparing for this incredible performance.

Last Sunday, VCE Repertoire students Bob Yi, Finn Ibrahim, Miranda Linton and Jeren Basangan performed to a select audience of fellow VCE students and teachers from across the region. All our students performed with poise and musicality and represented our school with distinction. Many thanks to Janice Wilding for hosting this event, and to Amanda Linton for supporting our students in this performance.

Last Tuesday Intermediate Jazz and Jazz Syndicate travelled to Hawthorn Arts Centre to participate in the Victorian Schools Music Festival Jazz Section. Both groups performed very well, receiving Silver Awards, and enjoying some excellent on-stage tutorial advice.

Many thanks to Emma Moffatt and all the students for making this event such a fun day for all.

Students in Years 8-12 who are still hiring an instrument should consider purchasing their own instrument. We would like to offer the experience of learning an instrument to as many year 7 students as possible.  In addition, many of our school hire instruments, such as clarinets, flutes, trombones and trumpets, are student models, without some of the features that enable students to produce the variety of techniques and tone required for senior level playing. If you are interested in purchasing the ‘next step’ instrument for your child, please contact your child’s instrumental teacher for advice on what to buy, where to buy, and above all brands to avoid!

On Thursday night Jazz groups and professional musicians put on a show to remember at the 2026 Jazz Cabaret. This event brought together professional musicians Michelle Scully, Kym Dillon, Sean Loughran, Georgia Brooks and Rob Moffatt, who inspired our students with an incredible night of music. Many thanks to this group of musicians for sharing their passion and expertise with our students, and congratulations to all our jazz musicians for their performances, and their enthusiasm and focus during the workshop. To those students who bravely took solos and performed with the pros, well done! Thanks to the music team for all their efforts preparing students and setting up for the event, and a special shout out to Liam Robinson whose sound and lighting was so professional, adding so much to the experience for all who attended.
