Book Week ran throughout Weeks 7 and 8 with the theme ‘Symphony of stories’, and the library ran a competition getting students to match up sets of (made up) song lyrics to a selection of books on display. Students had to correctly match up all sixteen books to go into the prize draw, which will take place in Week 9. 

The Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge closed on Friday 4th September. More than 45 students have successfully completed the Challenge and will receive a free pizza lunch and go into a prize draw to win a Dymocks gift card. 

Participating students read almost 1,500 books, with Powerless by Lauren Roberts, Caraval by Stephanie Garber, and Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes among the most popular. 

Recruiting for Year 8 Readers’ Cup has begun. Each class from Year 8 will form a team of 4 students and read the following books: Bite risk by S.J. Wills, The road to winter by Mark Smith, and Skeleton Creek by Patrick Carman. Please see library staff or English teachers for more details.

Grave robbing and other curious activities is part humour, part mystery, and part horror-story.

Alex Steeple lives with his mum above a mortuary – he literally sleeps above bodies! It’s the family business – his mum is the mortician, Uncle Dave is the grave digger, and his aunt and cousin run the funerals. But that isn’t what’s keeping him awake at night – it’s the fact that one of the bodies has gone missing, and he thinks his mum and uncle are covering it up! It’s up to Alex and his cousin Lexi to find out the truth – why is there a body missing? Has there been murder? And what does his family know?

Alex is a great character with a spirited imagination and a strong sense of right and wrong. He is willing to go to great lengths to investigate the mystery, even if it risks his family’s wrath in the process! This was a fun, quick, light-hearted read with plenty of funny moments, good characters, and an enjoyable little mystery with a bit of a scare – Year 7 students and older will love this.
