Principal's Report

The incredible work coming out of our Music Program continues to be a real source of pride for Belmont High School, with our students having an outstanding week of performances. 

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of watching Angus Moffatt and Will Gladman perform as part of the orchestra at the Victorian State Schools Spectacular at John Cain Arena. It was fantastic to see them representing Belmont High School on such a significant stage. 

The performances continued on Tuesday night at the VSMF Jazz Festival, where our Jazz groups showcased their talents, highlighted by our Senior Jazz Syndicate placing second. We then finished the week with our Jazz Cabaret, a fantastic evening that gave our students the opportunity to perform alongside professional musicians, learn from experts and experience music at an incredibly high level.

Congratulations to all our students and staff involved. The quality, depth and opportunities within our Music Program continue to go from strength to strength.

New Science Building Nearing Completion 

It is exciting to share that our new Science and Health Centre is nearing completion, with the building expected to be ready for handover following the upcoming school holidays. 

After watching the project take shape throughout the year, we are incredibly excited to soon have our students learning in a modern, state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance our Science and Health programs. The new spaces will provide outstanding opportunities for practical learning, collaboration and engagement. 

We look forward to welcoming students and staff into the new building next term and seeing this fantastic new facility become an important part of learning at Belmont High School. 

Students of the Month – August 

At Belmont High School we celebrate our students who display excellent learning behaviours with a regular “Student of the Month” award. There is one Student of the Month per year level, twice per term. Student reports are used to create a shortlist for teachers to consider against the below criteria: 

• Student shows exceptional application in class and overall effort towards their studies. 
• Student has a positive attitude towards learning, their classes and the school. 
• Student is always ready to learn by being in correct uniform, having all required materials and rarely needs to leave class. 
• Student may show some leadership qualities in the classroom. 
• Student’s academic performance is very good OR they have shown great growth in this area over time.

Student Attendance 

To ensure our attendance records are accurate and that students are accounted for in an emergency, we ask that all students remember to sign in at the Compass kiosk if they arrive at school after 9.00am. Students are asked to use their ID card to make this process quicker and easier. 

Senior students are reminded that they can only leave the school after their last class for the day.  If they do not have a scheduled class in the middle of the day but do have classes in the afternoon, then they must stay at school and use the private study space. 

Students returning from sport before the end of the school day will either return to class or be supervised until 3.15pm. 

Parents are asked to enter an attendance note on Compass if their student is leaving school during the day.

Parent / Carer / Opinion Survey 

The annual Parent / Carer Opinion Survey is now open and will remain available until Friday 18 September. This Department of Education survey provides families with an important opportunity to share feedback about school climate, student engagement and their experience of Belmont High School. 

Your feedback is extremely valuable and helps inform our ongoing school improvement and future planning. 

For information on how to complete the survey, including the survey link and access details, please refer to the Compass message sent to families on Monday 17 August. We encourage as many families as possible to take the opportunity to have their say.
