The Children’s Book Council of Australia book of the year 2026 for Older Readers is “Darkest Night, Brightest Star” by Barry Johnsberg. The main character in the book is a thirteen year old boy called Morgan who has to overcome certain hurdles in life. Morgan has a poster in his room which reads ‘the darkest night produces the brightest star’ which motivates him to find his place in the world. The main message of “Darkest Night, Brightest Star” is that, with the support of the right adults and friends challenges can be overcome.

Next week the Discovery Centre and the Terry Feely Library will be running a number of activities to celebrate Book Week. The  major highlight for the Year 7’s is our guest speaker Ben Wood who is the Illustrator of the popular series “Real Pigeons” by Andrew McDonald. Ben will be demonstrating his art and signing copies of “Real Pigeons” to the winners of a book mark colouring competition.
