Science Week at St Peter’s College: A Week of Discovery and Excitement
Science Week at St Peter’s College was a fantastic celebration of curiosity, discovery and the incredible world of science. Across the week, students and staff had the opportunity to get involved in a range of engaging activities that brought science to life both inside and outside the classroom.
The week kicked off with a Staff Morning Tea and Science Quiz, giving our staff the chance to put their scientific knowledge to the test while enjoying some well-deserved time together. There were plenty of laughs, surprising answers and some very competitive moments!
Our Year 8 students were treated to an exciting Street Science incursion, featuring spectacular demonstrations and plenty of audience participation. Highlights included the famous Crash Test Teddy and Cosmo, captivating students while demonstrating important scientific concepts in an entertaining and memorable way.
Science Week also provided an opportunity to explore how science can help us care for our environment. Students used recycled materials to create seed paper, combining creativity, sustainability and science. This hands-on activity demonstrated how everyday materials can be reused while creating something that can ultimately contribute to new plant growth.
The week culminated in our spectacular Science Extravaganza! Students were able to experience a range of exciting demonstrations and practical activities, including dissections, dry ice, electricity and fire. The event was filled with fascinating observations, scientific surprises and plenty of excitement, providing students with the opportunity to see science in action.
A huge thank you to our Science staff and everyone who contributed to making Science Week such a success. Most importantly, thank you to our students for embracing the activities with enthusiasm, curiosity and a willingness to ask questions, make observations and explore the world around them.
Science Week was a wonderful reminder that science isn't just something we learn about — it is something we can experience, question and enjoy!

Social Justice: Support the Vinnie’s Winter Appeal (Clyde North)
This term, the College has been raising funds and awareness for the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.
From now until the end of Term 3, the Clyde North Social Justice Club will be collecting donations of essential personal care items to support people in our community who may be doing it tough this winter. We are asking our College community to donate items such as shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, lip balm, hand cream, small packs of tissues, and feminine hygiene products.
The Vinnie’s Winter Appeal supports people experiencing hardship. At St Peter's, we demonstrate our commitment to supporting people who may be vulnerable or disadvantaged through initiatives such as this, living out the Catholic Social Teachings of Human Dignity and the Common Good.
Donation boxes will be located in Graham, Coffey, Lyons, and the VCE Centre from now until the 18th of September.

Father’s Day Gift Sale – Gifts for a Special Male in Your Life
Looking for a special Father’s Day gift – or a gift for an important male in your life? Our Year 12 VCE VM Work Related Skills students have been busy creating and producing a range of unique handmade gifts.
Whether it’s for a Dad, Stepdad, Grandad, Uncle, brother, coach or another special male role model, there is something for everyone!
Students have worked in groups to design, create and prepare a range of products, including:

Tournament of Minds 2026: Creativity, Challenge and Growth
Congratulations to our Tournament of Minds students from Clyde North, who represented St Peter’s College at Deakin University following weeks of intensive preparation, collaboration and creative problem-solving. Both teams competed in a demanding Long-Term Challenge and a fast-paced Spontaneous Challenge.
Our STEM team—Rayhon, Raj, Marco, Dimitri, Rylynn and Risean—tackled Small Scale, Big Screen. They developed an original science-fiction concept, engineered a working miniature, filmed and edited a sequence, and prepared scientific explanations to support their solution. Their project combined engineering, design, technology, filmmaking and performance. Risean was especially proud of creating and editing their stop-motion video, while Rylynn valued “working as a team and having fun along the way.”
Our Language and Literature team—Miranda, Isabella, Kirsten and Dev—responded to Reels to Radio: The Ultimate Audio Drama. They conceptualised a 20-episode radio-play series for young people and brought selected episodes to life through dialogue, narration, sound effects and performance. Their imaginative dystopian narrative explored power, censorship, social media, manipulation and rebellion, using kings, knights and pawns to symbolise the relationship between authority and ordinary citizens. Miranda identified the team’s radio show as one of her proudest achievements.
The students’ reflections reveal that the experience was about far more than the final presentations. Kirsten particularly enjoyed “sitting at the booth at Deakin, just talking, snacking and writing the script,” while other students remembered sharing food, laughing together and enjoying the time spent with their teammates. They were also surprised by the scale of the event and the large number of schools participating.
Perhaps the teams’ greatest achievement was their growth throughout the process. Students became more confident in allocating responsibilities, responding to setbacks, solving problems and taking ownership of their work. Presenting before the judges was challenging, but Rylynn reflected that he felt more confident knowing his team was beside him.
Students also recognised the importance of starting early, carefully analysing the challenge, communicating openly, and managing their time effectively. Tournament of Minds asked them to think independently, take creative risks, persevere and transform ambitious ideas into tangible performances.
We are extremely proud of the creativity, persistence, independence and teamwork demonstrated by all our Tournament of Minds students throughout their 2026 journey. Congratulations to everyone involved!
