Book Week 2026
BNWPS celebrated Book Week last week, and it truly was a symphony of stories!
Thursday was our annual Writers Festival and our year three to six students took part in a variety of fun and writing based electives ranging from Comic strips using stick figures, writing the stories of mysterious objects and ‘Frankenstories’ (cobbling together parts of known stories to make a new story). These students also took part in a challenge to work in small groups and publish a whole picture storybook in 120 minutes … not an easy thing to do!
Our Foundation and Junior students enjoyed a visit from published author and illustrator Anna Zobel, as well as diving into ‘Dear Broccoli” by Jo Dabrowski (one of this year's shortlisted Picturestory Books of the year) where they wrote a letter to a food that they wanted removed from their plate.

Another highlight of Book Week was our annual dress-up day and parade. It was wonderful to see the creativity and enthusiasm students brought to their costumes, which represented their favourite books and characters. Staff members joined in the fun as well, making it a truly joyful whole-school celebration!
Parent/Carer interactions with staff
Unfortunately it has become necessary to remind all parents and carers that any interactions with BNWPS staff must be respectful at all times. We understand that there may be circumstances (either at school or at home) that add stress or pressure to the day, but it is never ok to allow that stress or pressure to manifest as a disrespectful interaction with Education Support staff, OSHC staff, Teaching staff, Admin, Sprout or members of Leadership. Parents/carers who belittle, make unreasonable demands of or openly criticise staff to their face will not be tolerated. If you are unsure of the expectations, please refer to our Vision, Values and Philosophy. If you do have an issue or concern that you would like to raise with a member of staff, we encourage you to arrange an appointment to speak with the appropriate staff member so that full and reasonable attention can be given to the issues raised.
Goals, Adjustments and Strategies (GAS) Meetings
Over the next few weeks, teachers will be facilitating meetings with the parents/carers of the students in their class who require considerable adjustments to the curriculum or environment so that they can successfully participate at school. The purpose of these meetings is to review students’ progress towards the achievement of goals and collaborate to set new targets. As per our school’s process, these goals will focus on both social and emotional, and academic growth.
Guiding the direction of these meetings is each student's Individual Education Plan (IEP). These plans are developed by teachers, who synthesise what’s discussed during the meeting into a document that describes the goals, adjustments and strategies that will be used to support a student. Our IEPs provide opportunities for student voice and they are linked to our curriculum continuums.
A GAS meeting will consist of classroom teachers, parents and caregivers; it may also include other adults from within the school community who support the child and any allied health professionals who are engaged by the family. Each GAS meeting is different depending on a child’s needs.
If your child has an IEP and requires a GAS Meeting, their classroom teacher will be in contact to organise an appropriate time.
BNWPS Annual Public Meeting
On Tuesday (August 18th) BNWPS will be having its Annual Public Meeting.
The Meeting will take place in our beautiful STELA Library at 7.00 PM.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.
At this meeting, School Leadership and School Council Members will unpack the data that tells the story of 2025 and 2026. We will also share our 2025 Annual Report, and will have time for questions from members of the community.
Some of the things we will dive into include;
- English and Maths Achievement data (including NAPLAN)
- The 2025 Financial narrative
- Student, Staff and Parent/Carer survey data
- School Council Subcommittee Achievements and Goals
All data that we unpack will be from the 2025 calendar year.
We would love to see as many parents/carers and community members present as possible.
Enrolments For Foundation 2027
We are now accepting enrolments for Foundation 2027. If you are intending to enroll your child in our school next year, please make sure you have submitted your form to the office. It may seem early in the year, but this timeline is required to help us with workforce planning. Please speak to a member of Leadership or the front Office if you would like an enrolment form.
