2028 Eucharistic Congress

As many of you may have heard, Sydney has been chosen to host the 54th International Eucharistic Congress in 2028!

This is an extraordinary honour for Australia and more importantly Sydney. To give you a sense of the scale, Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP has noted that this will likely be the largest gathering on Australian shores since World Youth Day in 2008. Even more special is the timing: 2028 marks exactly 100 years since Sydney first hosted thisglobal event in 1928.

What is the International Eucharistic Congress?

At its heart, the Congress is a week-long global festival focused on the "source and summit" of our faith, the Eucharist. It brings together tens of thousands of pilgrims from every corner of the globe for:

Moving Liturgies: Including massive opening and closing Masses.

Public Witness: A spectacular Eucharistic procession through the very streets of Sydney.

Community & Culture: Concerts, workshops, and family-friendly activities at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Darling Harbour.

Our Theme: “This is My Body, Given for You”

Pope Leo XIV has chosen a beautiful and profound theme for this gathering: “This is My Body, Given for You.” In our classrooms, we often talk to the students about what it means to be "people for others." This theme asks us how we can "give ourselves" to our families, our friends, and those in need just as Jesus does for us.

How can we get involved?

While 2028 feels like a while away, the journey to Eucharist 28 begins now! As a school right here in Sydney, we have a "front-row seat" to this spiritual renewal. Over the coming years, we will be:

Integrating the Theme: Bringing the message of Eucharist28 into our Religious Education lessons and school prayer life.

Community Pilgrimage: Participating in local processions and Holy Hours as a Parish community.

Volunteering: There will be incredible opportunities for our older students and parents to welcome the world to Sydney.

Stay Connected

I encourage you to visit the official website at eucharist28.org to explore the beautiful resources available for families.

Let’s begin this journey together, asking for God’s blessing on our city and our school as we prepare to welcome the world to encounter the joy of Christ.

Your child has a Religious Education textbook in their classroom called To Know, Worship and Love (KWL).  During Lent, we are encouraging students to take this book home and pray the Lenten prayer included in the text. You may like to create a small prayer space at home and gather together as a family to share this prayer. Just two minutes, beautifully spent together.

We would love you to take a photo of your prayer space and share it with us!
