Working Together as a School Community

Sydney Catholic Schools Parent Charter

The intention of the Parent Charter is to outline the principles and expectations that underpin the relationship between parents and schools as we work together to build school  communities based on our enduring values of faith, hope and love.

The Charter makes recommendations related to how parents and teachers can work together to support every child’s educational journey in a faith filled environment.

Parents will:

  • adhere to and maintain all commitments made at the time of enrolment throughout their child’s schooling
  • always treat every member of the community with courtesy and respect
  •  use positive language about the school, staff, subjects, learning and rules, with their child
  • ensure their child completes all assigned homework, study and assessments
  • ensure their child attends school each day
  • respect the personal and online privacy of every member of the school community
  • support the school’s behavioural expectations
  • not engage in intimidation, violence, bullying, or harassment of any staff, student or other parents
  • disclose all information required by the school
  • ensure the prompt payment of school fees
  • reasonably consider the perspectives of the school, other students and other parents
  • honour requests to meet with the school in person to create plans and resolve any issues, misunderstandings or concerns
  • support their child’s participation in the liturgical and faith life of the school including the Religious
  • Education curriculum

Teachers are the first point of contact:

To discuss your child’s learning, experiences at school, or to raise a concern, parents are asked first to contact the appropriate class or pastoral teacher.

Cool Kids Anxiety For Kids Program is a structured program that teaches children and their parents how to better manage a child’s anxiety. The program uses a cognitive behavioural approach, involves the participation of children and parents and focuses on teaching practical skills. The program can be run with individual families or in a group, and has options for school, community and clinical settings.

School Attendance

Regular school attendance plays a vital role in supporting student learning and overall wellbeing. Each day at school contributes to a student’s academic progress, while frequent absences can interrupt their learning and achievement. It is also important that students arrive on time each day and are not collected early on a regular basis.

Parents and Carers are required to:

  • Ensure their child attends school each day unless they are absent for an approved reason

  • Provide an explanation for any absence within 7 days; otherwise, the school must record it as unexplained

  • Supply a medical certificate for recurring or long‑term absences

  • Submit an application in advance for planned leave of more than 5 days

Car Lines and Parking

Parents are reminded to ensure their child/children do not walk between cars when exiting vehicles in the carline, as this poses significant safety risks. Students are asked to use the pedestrian crossing, which is supervised by staff.

Please avoid opening car boots automatically, as vehicles often stop closely behind. Students are encouraged to keep their school bag inside the vehicle for easy and safe access.

Parents are also asked not to park in the staff car park or the administration car park unless they are visiting the office or collecting a child from the sick bay.
