Our Foundation scientists have been discovering the amazing wildlife living in our school pond! Students learnt that a pond is a special habitat and were excited to meet one of its tiniest residents, the protected Dwarf Galaxias, a native Victorian fish. After reading Gladys and Stripey, exploring the fish's life cycle, and making careful observations of the pond, students investigated what animals need to survive. They watched how to create a frog-friendly habitat before designing colourful pond collages filled with plants and features to help Dwarf Galaxias thrive. Some classes also enjoyed getting up close to pond water and the fascinating water bugs that call our pond home. 

Year 1 & 2

Students have been thinking like engineers during our recent STEM challenges! Working in teams, they designed and built the tallest free-standing towers using only spaghetti, tape and a marshmallow. They then applied their engineering skills to design and construct bridges using straws and paddle pop sticks, testing how well their designs could span a gap and support a toy car and wooden blocks. Throughout both challenges, students explored how different materials and shapes affect the strength and stability of structures while developing their teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills. It was wonderful to see students testing ideas, learning from setbacks and improving their designs just like real engineers!
